Changes in the 2020 Overseas Study in Korea Fair > Every Child is Our Child Press Release Release Date Immediately Ministry of Education Director 안주란 (☎044-203-7277) International Education Cooperation Division Deputy Director 전보애 (☎044-203-6766) National Institute for Department Head 김우정 (☎02-3668-1365) International Education 이애경 International Student Team Leader (☎02-3668-1356) Support Team Education Supervisor박귀자 (☎02-3668-1382) Finding a New Way to Promote Studying in Korea in the COVID Era. “2020 Study in Korea Fair” will be held on/offline ◈ Customized online fair for Mongolia, Vietnam, and Taiwan ◈ Operating online promotion center, real-time video sessions, local offline promotion centers □ The Ministry of Education (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hae) and the National Institute for International Education (Director Kim Young-gon) will connect with various countries to promote studying in Korea and host the on/offline "Study in Korea Fair." ᄋ Since 2001, the on site Study in Korea Fair has been held about 17 times a year in multiple countries in order to attract outstanding international students. ᄋ As a global pandemic hit this year, movement between countries was highly restricted, resulting the fair to be operated online. < Changes in the 2020 Overseas Study in Korea Fair > Offline Fair Online Fair 2019 Fair: 18 cities in 15 countries Cyber Fair: 3 Times ⇩ Customized Fair for 2020 designated countries Cyber Fair with local <On/Offline> Agency Cyber Fair governments (Online Promotion Room, Real-time video conference, Collaboration One-on-one chat service)+(Offline fair operated by local Korean embassies) □ The on/offline model of "2020 Study in Korea Fair" will be held for three weeks from October 20 to November 7. ᄋ The three target locations are Mongolia, Vietnam, and Taiwan, where the demand for studying in Korea is high and the COVID situation is relatively stable. ※ COVID-19 Situation (John's Hopkins CSSE / 2020.10.4): (Mongolia) 313 confirmed cases, 0.0% death rate - In particular, Mongolia has lifted all public event bans since September 16. (Vietnam) 1,096 confirmed cases, 3.2% death rate (Taiwan) 517 confirmed cases, 1.4% death rate. ᄋ Study in Korea Fair in Mongolia will be held from October 20 to 24, in Vietnam from October 27 to 31 and in Taiwan from November 3 to 7. Each will be a week long. Mongolia Vietnam Taiwan □ In terms of the operation, 64 participating universities will create online virtual booths on Study in Korea website* to provide up-to-date information on admission and offer one-on-one chat service. * Study in Korea Information Management System (www.studyinkorea.go.kr) operated by the Ministry of Education's National Institute for International Education provides information on studying in Korea, holds cyber fairs and offers online admission service. ᄋ In addition, real-time briefing sessions and video conferences will be held to create communication channels between Korean university admissions officers and prospective students. University promotion Real-time chat room Real-time briefings website (fair, meetings) □ In addition, in order to overcome the limitations of social distancing and online promotion, on-site promotion will be available in multiple institutions with the help of local embassies. ᄋ In Vietnam, an offline fair will be held at Ho Chi Minh University of Economics and Finance from October 30 to 31, led by the Korean Education Institute. ᄋ In particular, the fair in Mongolia will play a huge role in strengthening the relationship of two countries marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and to speed up the New Northern Policy. - Embassy of Korea in Mongolia will operate four promotion centers* in downtown Ulaanbaatar. Especially in the Mongolian National University, the entire four-story library building will be used. * Library of the National University of Mongolia, Magiko Office, Ulaanbaatar University, High school 23 ᄋ When local students visit the promotion center, they can receive various promotional materials and souvenirs, and participate in the fair through the computer equipment provided on site. □ Kim Young-gon, Director of the National Institute for International Education, said, "We expect that this online and offline fair will be a good example of international cooperation along with the cyber fair held with Gangwon-do and Busan last September." ᄋ "We will work hard to find and develop new plans to promote Study in Korea with the help of domestic and foreign institutions and universities," he said. ※ (Cyber Fair in Gangwon-do / September 15 to 18) 4 universities participants and 120,606 people from 104 countries visited. (Cyber Fair in Busan / September 22 to 25) 11 universities participated and 177,566 people from 110 countries visited. □ Kim Heon-min, chairman of the Korean Association of Foreign Student Administrators(KAFSA), said, "Even in the midst of the COVID situation, the Ministry of Education, the National Institute for International Education, and universities are looking for the best way to attract outstanding international students." - "Even though we can't meet students on-site, the hybrid style which combines both on and offline, can be the beginning of new opportunities," he said. □ The Ministry of Education has been supporting the expansion of domestic universities' remote classes and the improvement of class quality by easing regulations so that international students can receive credits in their home countries without entering Korea. ᄋ International students will be assisted in every step of the process to prevent the spread of COVID-19, even before entering Korea.
