Punch Bowl Challenges 1st to 30th September 2020 Virtual Run or Walk

For many years the Black Down & Supporters of the have joined forces with The Borders Athletic Club to put on the very successful Punch Bowl Challenges, a series of running races for all the family. Because of the extraordinary problems of lock down and social distancing we are unable to proceed with the normal format. Instead the BD&HH Supporters are delighted to offer runners the opportunity to take part in a competitive virtual run and, in a new development, walkers are invited to take a non-competitive walk. All participants should maintain the social distance that is in line with current government guidelines.

The Virtual Runs There are 4 colour coded routes around Hindhead Commons and the Devil's Punch Bowl, which are permanently marked out by the National Trust: Sailor's Stroll (1 mile ,1.6km), Highcombe Hike (2.8 miles 4.5 km), Hidden Hindhead Trail (3.1 miles, 5 km), Roam 639 (6.39 miles, 10.28 km). Route maps can be found below. Whilst we have checked the routes for impediments, everyone is doing this at their own risk. Choose one of these and run it as many times as you like, to get your best time, between 1st and 30th September.

Once completed please: 1) Make a donation (details in red below) to the Black Down & Hindhead Supporters of the National Trust, we suggest at least £5 for juniors and £10 for adults, to enable us to continue to support key projects on local National Trust properties, 2) Send an email [email protected] with details of your Name, the amount of your donation, the run you completed, age & sex (for allocation to the appropriate category), the date of your run, your time and some evidence that you completed the run e.g. a photo, Strava, or other App, record, etc. Team entries are welcomed but please ensure you adopt appropriate social distancing within any group activity. Please submit Team results in one email. The winners of each "race" and times recorded by all participants will be published on our website during October 2020. All participants will receive a personalised certificate of their participation in this Extraordinary Event. There will also be an Environmentally Friendly Commemorative Wooden Medal

The Walks Because the Punch Bowl Challenges are, in a normal year, such an important source of funds for the Black Down & Hindhead Supporters of the National Trust we are asking our Supporters, their friends and families - and of course anyone else who would like to get involved - to help plug the financial gap and sign up for a Punch Bowl Challenge walk. This should be completed between 1st and 30th September 2020. This can be as informal as you like but do try to make it a special event so that you can send us a few words describing your walk or a photo that we can share on our website to mark this Extraordinary Event. You can either follow one of the routes defined in the Virtual Runs section above or chose you own route and distance according to ability on one of the NT sites local to Haslemere.

Once you have completed your walk please: 1) Make a donation, (details in red below) to the Black Down & Hindhead Supporters of the National Trust, we suggest at least £3 per person or £10 per family, to enable us to continue to support key projects on local National Trust properties. 2) Send an email to [email protected] with details of your Name, the amount of your donation and the walk you completed. This is not competitive so there will be no winners. We will however select some of your stories and photos for an article on our website. All participants will receive a personalised certificate of their participation in this unique event
