White Earth RBC staff attend conference to help prevent and end homelessness The Minnesota Tribal Collaborative to Prevent and End Homelessness held their monthly meeting April 17 in Cloquet, Minn., on the Fond du Lac Reservation. In attendance at that meeting were Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan, Commissioner of Minnesota Housing Jennifer Ho, Minnesota Department of Human Services Commissioner Tom Houley, and a representative from US Senator Tina Smith’s office. A great discussion was held between the Minnesota Tribal Collaborative and the State of Minnesota attendees in regards to the issue of ending homelessness. As the Lt. Governor stated on her Facebook page after the meeting, “It is the beginning of more work to be done together, government to government, to bring housing solutions to tribal com - munities across the state. The best solutions come from the community and the most suc - cessful efforts are community led.” Attending the meeting on behalf of White Earth were Human Services Director Ben Bement, Homeless Program Coordinator Christina Olsen, and Resource and Supportive Services Manager Mary Riegert. The Minnesota Tribal Collaborative to End and Prevent Homelessness currently con - sists of six tribal nations including: White Earth, Bois Forte, Fond du Lac, Red Lake, Mille Lacs and Leech Lake. Board members will be required to meet once a month to discuss the monthly reports of all White Earth Enterprises. Notice of Available Position GAMING COMMISSIONER White Earth Band Gaming Commission Description of the Position . The White Earth Tribal Council (Band) is seeking letters of interest in serving as a member of the White Earth Gaming Commission (“Commission”). The Commission is a five person body that is a subdivision of the White Earth Band. The Commission is responsible for ensuring that all gaming activities within the Band’s jurisdiction are conducted in conformance with the applicable policies and regulations including the Bands Gaming Ordinance. Eligibility . In addition to the qualifications set forth below, candi - dates for the Commission shall have experience and training of sufficient scope, depth and relevancy to enable him/her to fulfill his/her duties as shown through at least four (4) years experience in gaming or other reg - ulatory affairs, public accounting or business finance, public or business administration, judicial or dispute resolution services, criminal justice, civil or criminal investigation, or law. Candidates must be an enrolled member of White Earth. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study is preferred. Appointment Process . Commissioners are appointed by the Tribal Council and serve a four (4) year term of office. A Commissioner must meet all applicable licensing standards under the Bands Gaming ordi - nance as determined through a comprehensive background investigation to be conducted prior to appointment. Time Commitmen t. The Commission typically meets one (1) day per month Commissioners may spend some limited additional time in Commission business outside of meetings. Stipend . This is not a full-time position and Commissioners are not eligible for any Band employee benefits. Commissioners are compensat - ed as independent contractors at a rate established by the Tribal Council. Qualifications - no person shall serve on the Commission if that person is: (1) Under the age of eighteen (18); (2) Been convicted or terminated from any Gaming operation for theft, misrepresentation or fraud of any kind. For purposes of this Section, (i) direct financial interest shall not include the right to per capita distributions of Gaming revenues pursuant to the IGRA but shall include direct ownership of stock in a publicly traded company and, (ii) indirect financial interest shall not include ownership of any mutual funds that hold such stock. Arthur James Bevins Sr. Marjorie Louise Roy Arthur James Bevins Sr. was born March 15, 1949, in White Earth to Aaron and Marjorie Louise Roy, 75, of Waubun, died April 4 at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Marciana (Oshkinowe) Bevins Sr. He attended White Earth Mission School and Waubun Lakes. High School. Art enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 14, 1969. George was born May 28, 1981, in Minneapolis to James Weaver and Teresa Meyer. Merlin (Poncho) Louis McDougall passed away March 25 in Bullhead City, Ariz., after A funeral service was held April 16 at Faith Hill Assembly of God Church in Bagley. a short illness. Poncho graduated from Fargo Central High in 1965. He entered the Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam, coming home in 1969. Verlin Michael DeGroat Poncho had several jobs before starting with the Fargo Park Verlin Michael DeGroat, 79, of Detroit Lakes, died April 22 at Essentia Health in Fargo. Apples contain several vitamins and minerals, with higher amounts of vitamins C, B-6 and potassium, plus they’re high in fiber. The colorful red skins are rich in a phytochemical called quercetin that has anti- inflammatory properties. More than 600 children and adults attended the annual Festival for Fathers and Families on April 20 at the Shooting Star Casino Event Center. Families could visit 61 vendors and they were treated to a brunch and door prizes. “A special thank you to all who attended and helped during the Festival for Fathers & Families this year,” said Casey Francis, White Earth Early Childhood Initiative Coordinator/Community Outreach Specialist. “What a fun event we had with a success again with family involvement and all the programs that attended.
