McLean, VA Hamilton, New Zealand 2017-2018 Men’s SOCCER 1 The University of Rochester: Meliora – “Ever Better” Dear Prospective Student, The University of Rochester is one of America’s finest institutions of higher learning. With over 165 years of excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, Rochester has forged a proud academic tradition. Rochester students, faculty and staff strive daily to bolster this rich history through their own ingenuity, creativity and discovery. In the humanities, our students and faculty are studying the masters while creating their own art, music and prose. Social sciences like our political science, economics and psychology departments have earned national recognition for teaching and research. The hard sciences at Rochester such as engineering, optics, bio-medicine and physics are all on the cutting edge in terms of creating knowledge and advancing their respective fields. The Rochester Curriculum is the primary reason that traditional learning co-exists with innovative research and discovery on our campus. Our curriculum is student focused and adheres to the philosophy that everyone does their best work when they follow their own interests. We do not have core requirements at the U of R. Instead, from freshman year onward, students take the classes that interest them. Students have the freedom to seek out coursework that they are passionate about and faculty whom they wish to learn from and collaborate with on research, writing and special projects. Students and faculty alike thrive in our unique educational setting. The Soccer Program at Rochester also boasts a proud tradition. During more than 8 decades of competition the program has earned a winning percentage over 0.629 and individual players have earned 24 All-America honors. Since 1986 we have participated in the NCAA Tournament on 17 occasions, won 10 University Athletic Association titles and 6 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships. As our university motto “Meliora” suggests, the soccer program strives to be “ever better” as we keep finding new ways to achieve higher and higher standards. In 2016, Rochester Men’s Soccer had its 17th consecutive winning season. The Yellowjackets also earned their 10th NCAA tournament appearance in the last 12 seasons – a milestone that only 10 Division III men’s programs have accomplished since 2005. As the program embarks on its 84th year this fall we look to continue this well-established tradition of excellence. As a national research university, we recruit only the best student-athletes from across the nation. Our facilities are outstanding and include a new dedicated locker room, state of the art weight room, a beautiful 120x75 grass training field, a 5,000-seat lighted stadium with FieldTurf© surface, and we utilize VidSwap performance analysis software to break down each game for team and player development. We consistently seek to test ourselves against the best with our University Athletic Association matches and by scheduling nationally ranked opponents and Division I programs. Like our curriculum, our Soccer Program focuses on students. Our staff supports the players in their personal, academic and athletic goals and we challenge them to achieve their full potential in each area. We design training programs for speed, strength, agility, fitness and ball work, and our players develop as athletes during their time here. We also help our players grow in terms of their understanding of themselves and the world around them. Sports psychology, leadership training, service and mentorship programs, and an international tour are all vital components of a four-year career at Rochester. Our program is seeking intelligent, talented and thoughtful young men who strive for excellence and growth as students, athletes and as human beings. We bring people into our program who are self-motivated and who thrive on challenge. We offer these enthusiastic individuals an environment that both pushes them to achieve their potential and supports them in their pursuit of personal excellence within a team framework. If this is the type of college and soccer program you are searching for, then take a serious look at the University of Rochester. The Yellowjackets return 8 starters and 24 varsity lettermen. They also welcome another talented incoming class of freshmen and transfers who hail from across the country. Redd Brown Goalkeepers Rochester returns goalkeepers Redd Brown ’18 and Patrick Conway ’19 while freshman Hugh Curran joins the corps from Arlington, VA. Both Brown and Conway are agile keepers who bring experience as upperclassmen and a combined 32 starts over the past two seasons. Curran is athletic with good size and shot stopping abilities to round out a competitive goalkeeping unit for the program. Defenders UR returns a pair of junior center backs in Lasha Alkhazishvili and Luke Loecher. Both started all seventeen matches last year as they gained experience and now look to anchor the back line in 2017. Sophomores Mouhammed Thiam and Gabe Sarch, and freshman Brendan Brazinski and Mike D’Amico add depth at the central defender position. Nik Angyal Lasha Alkhazishvili Nate Leopold At wing back, the Yellowjackets have athleticism and skill with five players having had productive spring seasons. On the right, Nik Angyal ’19 is a tough, consistent defender with Cristian Baltier ’20 bringing quickness and skill. On the left, Patrice Dougé ’19 is strong and athletic, Milan Fatschel ’19 is pacey with clean technique and Nate Leopold ’20 is an attacking minded back who loves to combine and get forward in the attack. Midfielders Bryce Ikeda Zach Lawlor Geoff Rouin In central midfield UR returns junior, captain Bryce Ikeda and sophomore Zach Lawlor. Ikeda has been a key player for the Yellowjackets over the past two seasons with 32 starts, 2 goals and 5 assists. He is a creative box-to-box midfielder who will be influential on both sides of the ball. Lawlor really came into his own as his freshman season progressed last year. He anchored the midfield in a holding role with his consistent passing efficiency. Alec Hay ’19, Josh Cooley ’20 and JR Eisold ’20 all had fruitful spring seasons as they increased their roles in the center of the park. Hay is athletic and a strong ball winner. Eisold is clean and skillful and knows how to pick a pass. Cooley is dangerous going forward in transition at his attacking midfield role. Seniors Stefan Sarkovich and Jono Morgan are creative attacking options in midfield as well. Incoming players include Ryan Aspenleiter, Anurag Dwivedi and Jacob Sciandra. Seniors Alex Di Perna, Geoff Rouin and sophomore Mitch Volis will utilize their pace and skill on the flanks. Di Perna and Rouin are experienced and will be instrumental in the UR attack. Volis made an immediate impact as a freshman with 4 goals and will step into an even larger role this fall. Senior Pete Martin was consistent and productive during the spring and in Germany.

  • City of Rochester Name: Raul Salinas Downtown Name: Center City District County: Monroe
Rochester, NY Submission to the Downtown Revitalization Initiative 6/10/2016 Executive Summary The revitalization of downtown Rochester must engage and retain young adults as residents who want to live and work in cities. A recent Urban Land Institute and National League of Cities supported a study of downtown Rochester, NY identified an immediate need to re-activate the Genesee Riverfront and Main Street to target diverse young adults and bring vibrancy to the fronts of downtown buildings. Critical to re-activating Rochester’s downtown is giving the job to rebuild it to the people who need the work the most. Thanks to the efforts of the Governor’s Rochester Anti-Poverty Task Force and the local Rochester Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative (RMAPI), the anti-poverty program pilot area is adjacent to Rochester’s downtown district. The program will provide employment supports (e.g. daycare and transportation) to stabilize families and connect them to Rochester’s downtown success. Rochester’s downtown district, the Center City District (CCD), is experiencing dramatic residential growth. Developers partnered with government to create new living spaces within iconic buildings. Despite the 1.7 million people visiting the district annually and record investment in downtown growing high tech firms, retail and walkable amenities do not support 18 hours of activity. Foot traffic by young adults connecting downtown living and work will bridge the gap between living and work that exists in downtown Rochester, NY. Young adults are drawn to an iconic city and will create the demand for first floor retail that will give jobs and stabilize neighborhoods.
