Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year the cupcakes will not be sold to the public but instead through networks of friends, family, school groups and workplaces. “Baking a dozen cupcakes and fundraising is a small act of kindness that has a big impact and we are so grateful to all the animal lovers who bake so passionately for a wonderful cause,” said SPCA CEO Andrea Midgen. “We know the Gisborne community is hungry to get involved with SPCA Cupcake Day and that’s why we’re asking locals to roll up their sleeves and get baking for vulnerable animals. “SPCA’s fundraising efforts have been affected this year because we had to cancel all of our fundraising events because of the lockdowns. “But now that the nation is back to Level 1, SPCA Cupcake Day can go ahead — for the 12th year. The event has raised more than $3.2 million in the past, which has gone directly to the tens of thousands of animals that SPCA helps every year.” Register to bake and sell as an individual, team or school at www.spcacupcakeday.co.nz. After registering, participants will receive ideas, recipes, inspiration and tips to make each SPCA’S SWEETEST FUNDRAISER IS BACK: The annual SPCA Cupcake Day is under way and the call is out for event special.
