This past year as Butler County Fair Queen has been absolutely amazing! It’s hard to believe a year has already passed, but time flies when you’re having fun! Looking back on my year, it’s hard to pick a certain memory as being my favorite, because they are all awesome. A few of the highlights of my year were riding in parades, talking to kids and taking pictures, helping out at the scrambles, helping with the 4-H shows, being a special guest at Bible camp and competing in the Iowa State Fair queen contest. Between the memories I made and the friends I met, being a part of the State Fair queen contest is something I will remember for the rest of my life. I’m honored to be able to have been a part of such a great group of girls. Another of my favorite things 1stsecuritybank.com to do was stop and talk to kids during the fair. I know that wearing my crown 800.272.0159 makes me someone to look up to, and I enjoy being able to make a little girl’s day by taking a picture with her. I was also a special guest and helper at Vaca- Member FDIC tion Bible School in Allison and I was able to talk to the kids about what it means to have good character. I really hope I was able to impact the people I talked to and make them strive to be the best they can be. I’m grateful I had this opportunity, and I can’t wait for the next queen to have just as amazing experience as I have this past year! Thank you to everyone who has helped me become the person I am today, especially my parents. Special thanks to them for getting me involved in 4-H and supporting my crazy love for horses! But brothers Matt and Scott Thomas, cousin Barry Knox and longtime friend Josh McSwain didn’t call it quits. Instead it reinforced their intense motivation and dedication to one another and to their de- termination to succeed. Each obstacle that delayed Parmalee’s arrival to Nashville was an extra mile that allowed the groundbreaking sounds of artists like Jason Aldean and Eric Church to pave the way for the worlds of country radio and Parmalee’s brand of country music to meet at the perfect crossroad. Parmalee’s country rock sound has its roots in the bluegrass, traditional country, southern rock and blues covers the guys grew up hearing their families play. All of Parmalee’s hard work, dedication and perseverance is paying off in a big way. Country fans voted the band’s debut single, “Musta Had A Good Time,” #1 for 4 consecutive weeks on Siri- usXM’s The Highway “Hot 30 LIVE” countdown and the song became a Top 40 hit on mainstream country radio. Parmalee’s current single, “Carolina,” was the 2nd most added song at Country Radio upon its debut, only behind superstar Kenny Chesney. “Carolina” is cresting Top 30 on the Billboard Coun- try Airplay and Mediabase charts. It is also the band’s second consecutive single to be fan-voted #1 on SiriusXM’s The Highway “Hot 30 LIVE” countdown. The signs are clear that after a long, tumultuous journey to Nashville, Parmalee is home at last.

New for 2014 will be the Old School Figure 8 Races. For the Old School Figure 8 Races, we are bringing back the mud, the mud tires, the lap counters, standing starts and restarts, and “run what you brung” attitude that started the Figure 8 craze in Butler County! Come on out to watch some of the drivers you haven’t seen in a while relive the “Glory Days”! Mixed in with the figure 8 races, will be the ever popular Car Soccer from the past two fairs. Watch as teams of two cars are pitted against an opposing team of two cars and drivers to move the steel ball weighing over 700 pounds through the goals. Finishing up the evening will be another new event- Figure 8 Trailer Races. There will be a car division and a truck division. The objective will be the first person to complete 10 figure 8 laps or be the last one left with their trailer and axle still attached to their vehicle! Their opponents will be trying at every turn to knock their trailer off the hitch or destroy their trailer. There is bound to be plenty of carnage the final two races!

Pre-Registration: Car soccer and trailer race teams need to pre-register. The car soccer event will be limited to the first 6 teams of two drivers and cars. The trailer race will be limited to the first 8 entries in each division. There is no entry fee for either event. A pit pass will be required for all drivers and spectators in the pits. For full rules, please go online on our website at www.butlercountyfair.org or “Like” us on Facebook. For questions about the event or to sign up your team, please contact Chad Oldenburger- 319-231-5468. Spots are limited, so please contact us soon!

Check out what’s changing at the Butler County Fair! Just inside the main gate entrance is our new Engraved Brick display. The Butler County Fair Foundation kicked off this project 3 years ago as a fundraiser to attain seed money for plans to build a new bathroom/first aid station. Brick sales have raised $11,950 toward this lofty goal, and the bricks that have been ordered will be installed by fair time. If you would like to know how you can contribute to this project, AND enjoy seeing your name at the fair for years to come, contact Jennifer Heeren, BCF Foundation Chairman at 319-267-2378; or any Fair Board member.
