Amendment to the product specification and single document Description a) the category (4) Sparkling wine has been added, comprising: — Spumante bianco, including with indication of one of the following grape varieties: Chardonnay, Grecanico, Chenin Blanc and Moscato Bianco; — Spumante rosato; b) the category (15) Wine from raisined grapes has been extended to cover also: — Bianco passito; — Rosso passito; Reasons The newly introduced categories, sparkling wine and wine from raisined grapes, are well established products in the relevant area. There has been a lot of experimentation in the area where the DOC Menfi is produced over the last 20 years and the intention of this amendment is therefore to reflect the new reality. -

Grillo, one of the most important white cultivars in Sicily, was ascertained to be an offspring of Catarratto Comune and Zibibbo, the same parents which Mendola claimed he used to obtain Moscato Cerletti. Thus the hypothesis of synonymy between Moscato Cerletti and Grillo or the same parentage for both sets of parents needs to be verified. -

It is primarily the medical profession who is leading in the direction of understanding this relation, in particular the risks of certain habits, aware of the need to prevent related illness not only to keep patients healthy, but also to contain the public health expenditure One of the item attracting a lot of attention is wine, a product of ancient tradition and integral part of the Italian and Mediterranean culture. It is both an ancient and modern beverage, which is neither good or bad for health, but the effect of which depends on different factors like the amount drunk or the general health of the person drinking it. This is not the place to underline the health effect of abusing wine, it is worth instead to remember its actual beneficial effect to healthy people and in moderate consumption. This last aspect, possibly already known to doctors, came to a lot of media attention about 15 years ago, when a very popular television program in the States, gave the news of an epidemiology research conducted by two French scientist (Renaud e De Lorgeril) published in 1992. -

Addendum regarding: The 2021 Certified Specialist of Wine Study Guide, as published by the Society of Wine Educators This document outlines the substantive changes to the 2021 Study Guide as compared to the 2020 version of the CSW Study Guide. All page numbers reference the 2020 version. Note: Many of our regional wine maps have been updated. If it saturates any part of a winery’s environment (barrels, cardboard boxes, or even the winery’s walls), it can even be transferred into wines that are sealed with screw caps or artificial corks. Thankfully, recent technological breakthroughs have shown promise, and some cork producers are predicting the eradication of cork taint in the next few years. In the meantime, while most industry experts agree that the incidence of cork taint has fallen in recent years, an exact figure has not been agreed upon. Current reports of cork taint vary widely, from a low of 1% to a high of 8% of the bottles produced each year.
