SRV's Autumn Retreat, October 5th - October 9th Sankhya of Lord Kapila Revisited Hidden Lake Retreat, Eagle Creek, Oregon The October retreat, to convene during the holy days around Navaratri, will give all SRV devotees and students a rare opportunity to center in on that earliest and most important element of India's multifaceted philosophical perspective - the Sankhya Yoga of Lord Kapila. Early on in SRV's history a few of my students received these teachings, and they also appeared along the way, wrapped up so integrally in the darshanas of Yoga, Vedanta, and Buddhism. Now we get the chance to revisit Sankhya and its scriptures, though many of them were lost over time. The Tattva Samasa Sutras, the one authentic remaining Sankhya scripture, will be the main focus, and the profound teachings found therein. Teachings on the twin principles of Purusha and Prakriti will head the list, in conjunction to both their relationship and their distinctions, and several new charts will be presented for additional interest and elucidation. Location/Setting: Serenely situated in the Cascade hills, Hidden Lake Retreat center, with its tall fir trees, woodsy gardens and pathways just inviting quiet, solitary reflection, will be the site of this year’s Autumn Retreat. Eagle Creek is only 45 minutes from Portland, Oregon. General Notes: This retreat is fully catered, so we can all be on retreat. Hidden Lake offers several kinds of accommodations and pricings from beautiful rooms to covered porches to camping. The weather at this time of year is often some of the most beautiful. Nights are cooler and days can be warm. But it is also possible that we will have rain. So please be prepared for a variety of possibilities. Check the weather for Eagle Creek, OR. Arrival: Thursday, October 6 after 3pm and by 6:00pm for dinner Departure: Sunday, October 9 after dinner. (Staying through dinner is required) Retreat Coordinator: Annapurna is the retreat coordinator. Please communicate any needs or concerns with her and she will relay them to our hosts at Hidden Lake. [email protected] or 503-774-2410 Participation: Please note that it is expected that everyone participate in all meditations, classes, satsangs, and outings. If you are ill or have some other serious consideration, please consult with Babaji or the staff beforehand. When people are missing from the morning meditation without warning it disturbs the meditation of the staff due to concern. Cell Phones: The spirit of the retreat is best observed by keeping cell phones off. If it is necessary to check phone messages, choose a discreet time to do this. Food: Meals are vegetarian. If you have a serious food allergy, you must contact us about this before September 23. Bring: meditation cushion, mat or cloth for under the cushion (chairs also available), alarm clock/time piece, notebook; suitable study material (there will also be a small library and some books/music to purchase), depending upon the kind of accommodations you choose, you may also need to bring bedding. Transportation: If you are flying in to Portland International Airport, please consult with us prior to making your flight arrangements. Carpools will leave from Portland. If you want to be part of one of these, contact Annapurna. Special Notes from our hosts: Guests with allergies should take note that we have two cats and a dog on site. Guest bedrooms are kept cat- and dog-free, but our pets do roam the property. Hidden Lake Retreat was designed for retreat, so we do not have TV on the premises, nor telephones in our guest rooms. Cell phone coverage is limited at the lodge (extensive roaming and dropped calls due to our topography). Please respect our request that there be no smoking in the lodge or on the property.
