Introduction

In 2005 Donan Murray one of Chennai popular guitar players formed Jazz Routes. The group started out as a platform for musicians to take up more concerts and shows apart from their own busy schedules. It worked around the availability of musicians.

In 2009 the band started doing corporate events. Since then it has performed at many events where it was appreciated for its outstanding skill and level of performance.

At bigger performances a few more available musicians join the performing band. The music is jazz based, mostly instrumental.

Artist Profile

Donan Murray is an electrifying musician with a history of playing jazz, rock and funk. He has been performing with diverse bands in Chennai from the early1990’s. In 2002 he performed at The Indian Jazz Yatra performances in Pune and Mumbai. Donan has performed in various cities across India including Bangalore, Cochin, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Vizag and The Andamans. Internationally he has performed in Germany, China, Malaysia and Singapore. Currently, he is an active studio musician and performer.

Jeoraj George was trained at Drumtech, a college for drummers in U.K. He passed out bagging the top student award from his batch. After returning to India he has been teaching and performing with various bands. He has conducted Workshops on Drum techniques and concepts for various companies and music schools in different parts of India. Jeoraj has performed at some of the major jazz festivals in India - Jazz Utsav, Conga Square Jazz Fest and Heritage Jazz and has shared the stage with some eminent jazz musicians in India like Amit Heri, Maarten Visser, Keith Peters and Holger Jetter. He has also toured with Academy award winner A.R.Rahman’s Live Band in India and abroad.

Keith Peters has been a studio and live musician for the last 22 years in the Indian music industry. He has played on almost every score of Academy award winner A.R Rahman and has toured the world with him. An extremely versatile musician Keith has performed with big names from India - Zakkir Hussain, Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Dr. L Subramaniam, Louis Banks, Ranjit Barot, Amit Heri, Kumaresh- Ganesh, Vasundra Das. Other performance credits include Chennai based pop, rock, fusion and jazz bands. In 2008 he performed at the Java Jazz festival in Indonesia with famous US Jazz guitarist Vinnie Valentino. Currently, Keith is still an extremely busy live performer and studio musician who barely finds time to breathe.

Maarten Visser studied saxophone from 1994 to 1998 at the 'Brabants Conservatorium' (Netherlands). He came to Chennai (India) in 1998 to study Carnatic music. and gave up rather soon. He started playing with local bands MadraZ& Funky Bodhi.

In 2000 he started to collaborate with choreographer Padmini Chettur. By 2010 he had composed music for 'Segment of a Solo' (2000), 'Fragility' (2001), '3 Solos' (2003), 'Paperdoll' (2005)', PUSHED (2006). Beautiful Thing 1 (2009)

In 2006 Maarten conducted a workshop called; Sound and Silence (Geluid en Stilte). This workshop revolved around the composition 'Mist', a microtonal piece for 6-14 musicians of any level, any instrument. The workshop was produced by 'ei- producties' an organization started in 2005 by Ferdi Schukking and Maarten.

In 2008 a CD with saxophone solos was released. He also started a band called “Maarten Visser Trio’. The music can be described as contemporary improvised music. Maarten is currently composing new material for a new group with Holger Jetter.
