ATM Surcharge Free Intro ATM Surcharge Free Intro There are some limitations to this file, but it is the best listing that we have been able to develop for ATM's around the U.S., sorted by state. Let me "introduce" this list by saying that there is no way for anyone to provide a comprehensive list of every ATM in the country that assess no surcharges, so Comdata has created this listing by looking at actual cardholder transactions. This is by no means a comprehensive listing, but it is a helpful tool for our customers. (You may also find that local co-ops or credit unions do not assess surcharges.) There are no guarantees that the ATM's listed in this file will not assess a surcharge today, because the merchants' policies may have changed (but ATM's are required to "warn" users that a surcharge will be assessed). In addition to this detail listing, I can also tell you about some banks and merchants whose ATM's are surcharge-free. These merchants are listed below with their web sites. I apologize that there is an East-Coast bias in this merchant list, but there may be other banks/merchants in the West/Southwest that we are not aware of (yet!). - All AmSouth Bank branches and AmSouth ATM's (TN, GA, AL, AR, MS, LA, FL): http://www.amsouth.com then "Branches/ATMs" - All Washington Mutual Banks and WaMu-owned ATM's: http://www.wamu.com then "Locations" at the top right - WaWa Convenience Stores (DE, MD, NJ, PA, VA): http://www.wawa.com then "Store Locator" - All 7-11's in Oklahoma (possibly other states...): <http://www.7- eleven.com/> then "Store Locator" Surcharge Free ATM List.xls Name City State W.F.B ANCHORAGE AK PROVIDENCE MEDICAL CEN SEATTLE WA AK AMSOUTH ALABASTER AL AMSOUTH ALBERTVILLE AL AMSOUTH ANNISTON AL AMSOUTH ARAB AL AMSOUTH ATHENS AL AMSOUTH ATTALLA AL 543 W MAGNOLIA AUBURN AL AMSOUTH AUBURN AL REGIONS BANK BAY MINETTE AL AMSOUTH BAYOU LA BATR AL AMSOUTH BESSEMER AL CARRAWAY METHODIST F C BESSEMER AL 1321 10TH. • John Blasberg 12/10/14 Econ 1400 Examination of Bias in ESPN's
John Blasberg 12/10/14 Econ 1400 Examination of Bias in ESPN’s News Reporting 2010-2014 Abstract This paper studies the effect geography, market size, and popularity have on the coverage ESPN awards teams following their appearance in 52 Monday Night football games between 2010 and 2014. I show that, contrary to popular belief, these factors play a very limited role in determining coverage share received by winning teams in written “Game Recaps” while having no measureable effect on attention paid to losing teams. Even though regional and market based biases are not conclusively present in these written reports, the possibility of slant in other ESPN offerings cannot be ruled out. Introduction Since 1979, ESPN has existed as the premier cable and satellite television destination for sports related programming. Its offerings encompass a wide range of areas including live game broadcasts, sporting news and talk shows, documentary films, and other original programming. The self-proclaimed “Worldwide Leader in Sports” reaches 97,736,000 households in the United States (85.58% of American households with at least one television)1, and yet, despite this near total saturation of the American market, is frequently criticized for slanting its coverage to favor certain regions over others. A prime example of this common perception is the so-called “East Coast Bias”, or idea that the North American sports media gives more extensive coverage and attention to teams and athletes on the east coast than their counterparts on the west coast.2 In 2009, Heath Bell, then a pitcher for the San Diego Padres, echoed the frustrations of fans from supposedly underserved geographies when he said, “I truly believe ESPN only cares about promoting the [Boston] Red Sox and [New York] Yankees and Mets – and nobody else.”3 A lengthy article in the October 2014 issue of Rolling Stone suggested the possibility that the network was trying to influence the outcomes of the inaugural College Football Playoff with the content of its coverage.

All the fans, she figured, were at Neyland Stadium, where the Tennessee Volunteers were playing to another crowd of more than 100,000. Today, she thought, would be safe. She'd leave home with her three boys and go to a Knoxville mall. Today, maybe life could be normal, like it used to be. "People spat on us," Bensel-Meyers said. Life, she now knew, would never be the same. Seven years ago, Bensel-Meyers, director of the freshman English program at Tennessee, came forward and charged the institution and athletics department with academic fraud. Papers were being plagiarized, she claimed. Athletes were getting grades they didn't earn, the same charge being made now by a professor at Auburn. Bensel-Meyers is tucked away in relative anonymity now. She is a professor at Denver University, a private school where athletics aren't nearly as big. Her marriage is over. Her children's futures have been drastically altered. Her health is in decline. Her bills are piling up. "It's tough," she said. "There was a time when my children blamed me for all this.

  • Clips for 7-12-10
MEDIA CLIPS – July 12th, 2018 Rockies stun D-backs with 19-run thrashing Four Colorado batters homer, including Gonzalez twice, starter Marquez Thomas Harding | MLB.com | July 11, 2018 DENVER -- The Rockies didn't just end an unseemly losing streak against the D-backs on Wednesday night. They obliterated it. Carlos Gonzalez homered twice and drove in six runs, Ian Desmond's first-inning blast accounted for three of his five RBIs, and Charlie Blackmon and pitcher German Marquez also went deep as the Rockies romped Arizona, 19-2, at Coors Field -- where the D-backs had previously won nine straight times. "I don't know," said Blackmon, whose Statcast-projected 434-foot homer off Jorge De La Rosa in the third was his deepest of the season. "We just whacked the ball tonight. I would like to think that it means we're going to continue to do that, but realistically, you're not going to score 19 runs a lot. "But at the same time, we did a really good job playing the game also. So it wasn't a complete fluke -- there was some good play in there." More important than the game stats was that the Rockies finished the night 3 1/2 games behind the National League West-leading D-backs and with a chance to win an important pre-All-Star break series. And they ended their longest losing streak at Coors against any club. 1 "We have a chance to win a series tomorrow, and they have a chance, also," said Nolan Arenado, whose 2-for-3 night with two RBIs seemed ho-hum in comparison with some of his teammates.

FERNHOLZ** “In the NFL, coaches’ challenges, which trigger replays, contribute to the sense that a game consists of about seven minutes of action . encrusted with three hours of pageantry, hoopla, and instant-replay litigation.” —George Will1 INTRODUCTION The use of sport as a metaphor for aspects of the legal process has a long history. Over a century ago Roscoe Pound decried the “sporting theory of justice” in his momentous speech to the American Bar Association.2 More recently, Chief Justice Roberts famously likened the judicial role to that of a baseball umpire.3 The instinct to draw parallels between law and sport is understandable. Messner2, and Robin H. Hextrum3 Abstract One of the long-standing trends in research on gender in sports media is the lack of coverage of women’s sport and the lack of respectful, serious coverage of women’s sport. In this article, we critically interrogate the assumption that the media simply provide fans with what they ‘‘want to see’’ (i.e., men’s sports). Using quantitative and qualitative analysis, we examine 6 weeks of the televised news media coverage on the local news affiliates in Los Angeles (KABC, KNBC, and KCBS) and on a nationally broadcast sports news and highlight show, ESPN’s SportsCenter.Part of an ongoing longitudinal study, the findings demonstrate that the coverage of women’s sport is the lowest ever. We argue that the amount of coverage of women’s sports and the quality of that coverage illustrates the ways in which the news media build audiences for men’s sport while silencing and marginalizing women’s sport. Moreover, the overall lack of coverage of women’s sport, despite the tremendous increased participation of girls and women in sport at the high school, collegiate, and professional level, conveys a message to audiences that sport continues to be by, for, and about men. 1 Department of Health & Kinesiology and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA 2 Department of Sociology and Gender Studies Program, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, USA 3 Faculty of Fine Arts, Laguna College of Art and Design, Laguna Beach, CA, USA Corresponding Author: Cheryl Cooky, Department of Health & Kinesiology and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program, Purdue University, 800 W.

  • Professional Economists and Policymaking in the United States, 1880-1929
ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: IRRELEVANT GENIUS: PROFESSIONAL ECONOMISTS AND POLICYMAKING IN THE UNITED STATES, 1880-1929 Jonathan S. Franklin, Doctor of Philosophy, 2014 Dissertation Directed By: Professor David B. Sicilia, Department of History The rapid establishment and expansion of economics departments in colleges across the United State in the late nineteenth century indicates a significant shift in the way Americans understood economic science and its importance to federal economic policy. This dissertation addresses that phenomenon by explaining how American economists professionalized; and how that process influenced economic policymaking in the U.S. from the formation of the American Economic Association in 1885 to the Great Depression of the 1930s. Chapters alternate between analyzing the dilemmas economists faced while crafting a distinct academic discipline and investing early professional economists’ role in the federal economic policymaking process. Three emerging themes help explain the consistent failure of early U.S. economists to translate modern economic theory to economic policy in a timely fashion. First, public skepticism and the persistence of folk economics proved to be a powerful deterrent to professionally-trained economists’ authority in debates over policy matters. The combination of democratic idealism, populist politics, and skepticism regarding the motivations of professionally-trained economists undercut much of the social prestige professional economists garnered as educated elites. Second, disagreement among professional economists, often brought on by young economists’ efforts to overturn a century’s worth of received wisdom in classical economic theory, fostered considerable dissent within the field.
