According to Matthew... by Matthew Mallet

A word of thanks.

The political campaigning is reaching a climax and soon a new student government will be installed. Before our attention turns to the next president's administration, however, I think it is important to recognize the accomplishments of those students vacating their respective offices.

In particular I believe the works of Rosanna Marchetti, Ross Miller, and, of course. Ed Day deserve special mention. Rosanna Marchetti has, in her several years working with ASUSF, provided a conscientious voice through troubled times. Although tempormental on occasion, she set standards for other senators to live up to. As acting vice president she controlled the often chaotic meetings and has pointed the Senate towards new goals.

bv Eileen Muldown In the rush and pressure of all phases of our lives today - even in the confines of a university all of us are becoming more and more stressed. Yet here and there we find people who. by their calm, pleasant, and courteous manner, make life more harmonious and agreeable. One such person is the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Miss Kathleen Madden. Born and raised in San Francisco, Miss Madden came to USF in 1966. Her work as receptionist clerk- typist began in the office she continues to keep in order today Financial Aid. During the 60's and early 70's, she worked for Fr. Norton J. Harold. Although increases in salary and promotions were few. Miss Madden remained at USF with one major objective: to help students. In December, 1976, after working at USF for ten years, Kathleen Madden had planned to retire. She stayed, however, when asked to help the new administrator, Gabriel Capeto. Patricia Lis, who has worked with Miss Madden for three years, said. "Kathleen is great to work with. She is tremendously loyal to the students and wants them treated fairly; she is very careful not to allow a student who needs financial help to go without, and equally careful not to give funds to someone who doesn't need the assistance. Kathleen has clear judgment and is very efficient in this office." Mrs. Eileen Madden, who has worked in Financial Aid for four years, also spoke of how the Assistant Director is very student-services orientated. (Eileen Madden's father-in-law: is Kathleen Madden's second cousin, which they discovered after working together for six months.) "Kathleen is always here early, and she is rarely absent for a day. Our first responsibility, she tell us, is students, not paperwork. The office opens promptly at 9 and closes at 4:30. Of course, we set aside blocks of time for paperwork, like the needs analysis we are doing now, but Kathleen will send a student back to us if she thinks it is important to the student not to wait "One summer, I did a spot job for financial aid and motto could be summed up in Shakespeare's words, "In until the next day. couldn't help noticing her kindly and compassionate life's uncertain voyage, I will some kindness do them'."
