Parvez Rana, Hassan Askari, Z.A. Zulfi, Pappu Samrat, Syed Noor, Babar Butt, and literally everyone else I met in the film industry were welcoming and hospitable beyond what I ever could have hoped or imagined. The cast and crew of Sharabi, in particular, went above and beyond to facilitate my research and make sure I was at all times comfortable and safe and had answers to whatever stupid questions I was asking that day! Along with their kindness, I was privileged to witness their industry, creativity, and perseverance, and I will be eternally inspired by and grateful to them. My committee might seem large at seven members, but all of them have been incredibly helpful and supportive throughout my time in graduate school, and each of them have helped develop different dimensions of this work.

The phenomenon includes a lot of names, which are now completely forgotten or are taken for granted by the modern generation of Pakistani English Fiction readers. These themes and trends of the fiction of the time also witness the socio- political and cultural conditions of the times in Pakistan. However the primary focus of this piece of writing is on the trends and themes of Pakistani English Fiction from partition to 1970s, as it was the time when Pakistani English fiction started developing itself as an independent genre. KEYWORDS: Pakistani English Fiction, Trends, Themes, Writers, Decades, Prominent I. INTRODUCTION Pakistani English Literature is the name of a fully developed and independent literature. It was started emerging most probably after 1940; right when the freedom movement reached at its peak. We can find the traces of rebellion and quest for identity as a separate nation in the pieces of writings, which were written during the era by the hands of the prominent literary figures of the time, including Ahmad Ali, Mumtaz Shahnawaz and Shahid Soharwardi.

World Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 2012, 2, 89-105 http://dx.doi.org/10.4236/wjnst.2012.23015 Published Online July 2012 (http://www.SciRP.org/journal/wjnst) High-Level Nuclear Wastes and the Environment: Analyses of Challenges and Engineering Strategies Mukhtar Ahmed Rana Physics Division, Directorate of Science, PINSTECH, Islamabad, Pakistan Email: [email protected], [email protected] Received February 11, 2012; revised April 2, 2012; accepted April 19, 2012 ABSTRACT The main objective of this paper is to analyze the current status of high-level nuclear waste disposal along with presen- tation of practical perspectives about the environmental issues involved. Present disposal designs and concepts are ana- lyzed on a scientific basis and modifications to existing designs are proposed from the perspective of environmental safety. A new concept of a chemical heat sink is introduced for the removal of heat emitted due to radioactive decay in the spent nuclear fuel or high-level radioactive waste, and thermal spikes produced by radiation in containment materi- als. Mainly, UO2 and metallic U are used as fuels in nuclear reactors. Spent nuclear fuel contains fission products and transuranium elements which would remain radioactive for 104 to 108 years. Essential concepts and engineering strate- gies for spent nuclear fuel disposal are described. Conceptual designs are described and discussed considering the long-term radiation and thermal activity of spent nuclear fuel. Notions of physical and chemical barriers to contain nu- clear waste are highlighted. A timeframe for nuclear waste disposal is proposed and time-line nuclear waste disposal plan or policy is described and discussed.

HOD, Department English University of Gujrat, Gujrat Abstract This study focuses on the critical evaluation of the most frequent metaphors in the Pakistani English poetry (PakEP) of 21st century. The poetic corpus includes the works of the maximum number of the poets from the whole of the country (sixty in number). They all belong to the post 9/11 time period. The corpus has thus two prime concerns as recency and representativeness. The researcher sets three objectives; first, which are the most frequent metaphors in the 21st C Pakistani English poetry; second, what the particular mood do these metaphors exhibit; third, to which school of poetry do these poets show their affiliation. With the use of AntConc3.2.1, the frequency, the concordance and the collocation of the most frequent metaphors have been discovered. Parallel to these, the description, interpretation and explanation of the metaphors have been conducted with the help of Fairclough’s (2000) model. The present study indicates that the recent English poetry of Pakistani young lot is thematically overwhelmed by love, heart and life. Secondly, despair and frustration are the moods of such poets in general. Thirdly, Pakistani English poetry is more akin to classicism and romanticism than modernism.
