Residents now have available on an Hills & Dales General Hospital opened in Cass City in 1960, the culmination of a post-war dream out-patient basis the services of specialists in and an extensive community fund-raising drive. Patients began occupying the new facility upon the closing 16 different fields in the ambulatory clinics at of the Pleasant Home Hospital, and were served by physicians H.T. Donahue, James Ballard, Herbert Nigg, the main campus. John Miles, John MacRae, and Clark Herrington. The facility housed 57 beds, eight for OB., eight for Pediatrics, and 4 1 for Medical/Surgical; its total cost for construction and equipment was $978,000. Dr. Abdole - Allergist Expansion occurred in 1972 with the opening of the West wing, which increased capacity to 65 0 Dr. Aqil - Internal Medicine beds. The Ambulatory Care Center was added in 1980, increasing Emergency Room capacity to two rooms, Dr. Atri - Nephrologist and adding EEGEKG, exam rooms, orthopedic room, and outpatient surgery capabilities. January, 1998, the Cardiac Rehab Center opened at the Michigan Athletic & Rehabilitation Center Health Promotions, Education & Prevention/Community Contributions in Caro. This program will save patients in the Thumb a drive to the city for their cardiac rehabilitation. The Michigan Athletic and Rehabilitation Center (M.A.R.C.) is a fully functioning department at Hills & Dales General Hospital already serving the area in 2 locations, one at the hospital, 4675 Hill Street, and the other in Caro at 1186 Cleaver Road. In addition, t patients will soon be able to receive help in the new, modem 19,046 df square foot medical faciIity of which 9,500 square feet will be devoted to M.A.R.C. A picture of the faciiity is on the back page of this report. The dedicated staff at M.A.R.C. under the direction of Barb Hollenbeck works to help patients attain and maintain sound physical Patient Accounting I. c, health. Under the guidance of caring professionals, services include Ruth Peasley, Shem CoIlis and Marie Babich Tammy Bechtel, Lynette Witherspoon and physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Other Becky Pemski programs include fitness programs, sports medicine, work conditioning and treatments for back injuries. The staff at M.A.R.C.. like all departments at Hills & Dales, maintains a high level of community involvement. Seminars are offered on health and fitness to area high schools which incIude special event athletic training services and hands-on student learning experiences. Persons visiting M.A.R.C. can be sure not only that they are receiving care from dedicated, caring people, but also from members of a trained staff that includes physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, occupational therapist and speech therapist. In addition, locaI citizens using M.A.R.C. will be aided by the use of the quality equipment designed to speed a training or a recovery program.
