  • A Psalm of Fear
A Psalm of Fear Psalm 31:1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. For the end, a Psalm of David, an utterance of extreme fear. (LXX) In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me! 2 Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me! 3 For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name's sake you lead me and guide me; 4 you take me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge. 5 Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God. 6 I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. 7 I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul, 8 and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place. 9 Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also. 10 For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. 11 Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.

  • Written Evidence Submitted by Netflix
Written evidence submitted by Netflix Submission to Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee inquiry The future of Public Service Broadcasting June 2020 Netflix in the UK 1. Netflix is a streaming subscription video on demand (SVoD) service that allows customers to watch a wide variety of TV shows, films, documentaries, and more over the internet and ad-free on any one of thousands of internet-connected devices at a time and place of their choice. We are a global service, offered in 190 countries with close to 180 million subscribers, of whom over 12 million are in the UK. 2. The UK is one of Netflix’s top three locations for production globally, along with the U.S. and Canada. In 2019 we invested over £400m1 here in local content, with over 50 different shows in production including co-productions with the public service broadcasters and in total over £500m in UK production - a third of all our production in Europe. We expect our investment here to continue growing; our long-term commitment to the UK creative community and our intention to increase our investment in production is also reflected in our announcement last year that we are creating a dedicated production hub in the UK, based at Shepperton Studios.2 3. Localised content is increasingly a priority for our business, both in the UK and around the world. Since 2019 we have appointed several UK-based commissioners overseeing scripted and unscripted content, including drama, comedy, factual, and kids and family - all of whom built their careers in the UK film and TV industry, including with the PSBs.

  • John Wesley's Manuscript Prayer Manual
John Wesley’s Manuscript Prayer Manual1 (c. 1730–1734) Editorial Introduction During his years as a student and active fellow at Oxford University, John Wesley filled a number of manuscript notebooks with material. Some were devoted to extracts from letters he had received, inventories of his personal library and expenses, and (after 1725) a diary. Others contained extended extracts from books he did not own, or collected short extracts from various sources on a topic (like his MS Poetry Miscellany). The survival of many of these notebooks is one of the rich resources for Wesley Studies. The largest portion that survive are part of the Colman Collection, now held in the Methodist Archives at The John Rylands Library in Manchester, England. Among these is a volume of prayers and psalms, mainly excerpted from published collections.2 A transcription of the contents of this notebook is provided below, identifying most of Wesley’s sources. (Those portions for which no source has been located are shown in blue font; they may be Wesley’s own creation, or from a yet unidentified source.) Before turning to the transcription it will be helpful to consider the context and purpose of the notebook. In the spiritual retrospective that he wove into his published Journal account of the transition he experienced on May 24, 1738, John Wesley emphasized that his earliest years at Epworth were in a home that adhered staunchly to the practice in the Church of England of morning and evening prayers, typically at the parish church. While he spoke of being ‘more

James Corden to Take Over 'Late Late Show' for Ferguson 09.08.2014 After weeks of speculation surrounding Craig Ferguson's possible replacement in his 12:35 a.m. time slot, CBS has officially announced that yes indeed, British comedian James Corden will take his place next year as host of The Late Late Show. Corden is a 36-year-old actor, comedian and TV personality who has appeared in U.K. series Gavin and Stacey and BBC/Hulu's The Wrong Mans, which he also co-created. He also starred in Begin Again, as well as upcoming films One Chance and Into the Woods. Currently he hosts Sky 1's comedy game show A League of Their Own in the U.K. Nina Tassler, chairman of CBS Entertainment, calls Corden "the ultimate multi-hyphenate - a writer, creator and performer who is loved and respected in every medium he touches, including theater, comedy, music, film and television. James is already a big star in the U.K. and he's wowed American audiences on Broadway; we're very excited to introduce his considerable and very unique talents to our network television audience on a daily basis." Tassler told The Hollywood Reporter that the choice was largely based on Corden's broad range in the entertainment business: he has appeared on (and won awards for) TV, film and theater, with a strong social media following thrown in. "In this day and age, certain actors come to your attention and you can't stop following him, and James is one of those talents," said Tassler.
