Donor Listing 14-19 Our Mission Dear Friends, We are grateful for the opportunity this Annual Report gives us to reflect on all of the accomplishments of The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center in Fiscal Year 2014. The three programs of The Children’s Home continue to thrive and grow in order to provide the highest standard of care to children and families throughout the greater Pittsburgh region and beyond. Every day we are motivated by the courage and determination of the children and families who come through our doors. It is this motivation that keeps us true to our mission: to promote the health and well-being of infants and children through services which establish and strengthen the family. The founding program, Adoption, continues to serve the community with comprehensive infant placement, search program services, and counseling to all individuals involved in the adoption process, as well as working with older children as an affiliate of the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN). Through all of these services, the Adoption Program served more than 400 peopleWelcome last year, including placingLetter 18 infants with adoptive families. Child’s Way® is in its 16th year of operation and has served 368 children since opening in 1998. As always, Child’s Way is abuzz with activity. This year the children and staff kept busy by enjoying the new playground equipment, winning medals in the Child’s Way Olympics, and serenading the audience at the Holiday pageant. It is a gift to watch each child change and grow to their fullest potential, and we are proud to be able to serve children with this unique program until their 21st birthday. This year the Pediatric Specialty Hospital celebrated its 30th anniversary. The Pediatric Specialty Hospital remains an unduplicated healthcare service in Western Pennsylvania, and as such we have seen a consistent rise in the number of patients being served, with admissions increasing by 50% during the last two years. In its history, the Pediatric Specialty Hospital has served more than 4,600 infants and children. Without the drive and dedication of The Children’s Home staff, its programs would not be where they are today. Among the many talented and hardworking individuals at The Children’s Home, we are proud to share that two staff members - Erin Colvin, Clinical Director, and Kim Phillips, Chief Financial Officer - were recently recognized with community awards for their dedication and leadership. The Children’s Home applauds Erin and Kim for their achievements, and is proud of each and every staff member for dedicating their talents to improving the lives of infants, children and families in the Pittsburgh region. We would like to close by recognizing and thanking YOU, our community supporters, advocates, volunteers, and donors. It was because of concerned community members that The Children’s Home was founded as an orphanage more than 120 years ago. It is because of you that we can continue to serve infants, children, and families through the three programs of The Children’s Home today. Maintaining this commitment to the community is a proud part of our history and at the core of our philosophy, but we can only continue to follow this mission with your continued support. Sincerely Yours, Pamela R. Schanwald, R.N., M.H.S.A. Julie I. Kline Chief Executive Officer President, Board of Directors 1 The Children’s Home 2014 Annual Report The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh 2013 – 2014 Board of Directors My twins were born 10 weeks early and needed extended care prior to Julie I. Kline – President coming home. When they were ready for transfer from the NICU at Magee-Womens Hospital, the home-like atmosphere and the personal attention Theresa L. Heck – Vice-President of the nurses and staff at The Children’s Home were such a gift. I had never taken Marvin S. Yu – Secretary care of infants, let alone 3lb. babies with oxygen and other monitoring devices, Alissa A. Meade – Treasurer but they helped my husband, my parents and of course me feel comfortable “ caring for such fragile babies. I was so grateful that after a scary first few months Amy Bass of parenthood, we were able to have such good experiences as a new family at The Children’s Home. We were well prepared to be capable parents when we Eric Boughner left. The Children’s Home is such special place that when I was approached to be David H. Cook on the Board, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I am so happy to be able to give back Ranny Ferguson to an organization that helped my family so much.” David Friedland, M.D. Mark A.
