DARRON STILES PREVAILS – With his win on Sunday in Knoxville, it looks like Darron Stiles will be returning to the PGA TOUR in 2013. The straight-hitting St. Petersburg, Fla. native was a TOUR member in 2003, 2005-2007 and 2009, collecting over $1.4 million. He came to Tennessee 30 th on the Web.com Tour money list and left the Volunteer state eighth with $200,911 in earnings. At season’s end, “The 25” leading money winners will be awarded TOUR cards. Stiles, 39, also won the News Sentinel Open in 2002.

BATTLEFIELD PROMOTION ALERT – After an opening-round 63 in the News Sentinel Open, attention turned to the possibility of Casey Wittenberg securing a battlefield promotion to the PGA TOUR. The 27- year-old Memphis native followed his 63 with a 72, then rounds of 69-66 on the weekend to finish T10. He carved into Luke List ’s money list lead, which is now approximately $4,500. Wittenberg won earlier this year in Lafayette, La. and Wichita, Kan. He and rookie Ben Kohles, who also has two wins, take their pursuit of a PGA TOUR promotion to the Classic in Pittsburgh this week.

TIMELY NICK WATNEY WIN IS NO. 342 – Nick Watney registered the 342 nd Web.com Tour alumni win on the PGA TOUR with his timely victory on Sunday in The Barlcays, which kicked off the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. It was his fifth career TOUR win and vaulted him to No. 1 in the FedExCup standings. The California native earned his PGA TOUR card after finishing fifth in Web.com Tour earnings in 2004 and has not looked back.

MYLAN CLASSIC CHARITABLE IMPACT SURPASSES $1.3 MILLION – In only three years, the Mylan Classic has established itself as one of the strongest charitable fund raisers on the Web.com Tour. Primarily through its TICKETS Fore CHARITY program, the Classic announced last week that its total charitable proceeds since 2010 had topped the $1.3 million mark. With a week left to fund raise, the 2012 ATFC figure stood at $530,000. The Mylan Classic has a week’s worth of activities scheduled, highlighted by Saturday night’s concert featuring Diamond Rio and Phil Vassar and the final round of the competition on Sunday.

HONORARY CHAIRMAN ARNOLD PALMER – Western native (Latrobe) Arnold Palmer is the Mylan Classic’s honorary chairman for the third year in a row. Mr. Palmer attended the first Mylan Classic in 2010. Weather discouraged his attendance last year.

BOISE EVENT SET TO KICK OFF WITH NORTHWEST COLLEGE RIVALRY SHOOTOUT – The Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft has announced its $50,000 Michelob Ultra Shootout will feature a skins format benefitting the golf programs at Northwest rivals Boise State University, the University of Idaho and the University of Oregon. Representing their schools will be Troy Merritt and Graham DeLaet (BSU) and Casey Martin and a TBA “Duck for a Day” (Oregon). Former REMAX Long Drive champion (2008-09) Jamie Sadlowski will represent Idaho (he is not an alum), along with a TBA “Vandal for a Day”. The $50,000 will be awarded to the programs based on the results of the best-ball skins competition. The Shootout will kick off tournament week in Boise at 2:30 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 10 th ) at host Hillcrest Country Club.

FOLLOW “THE 25” ACTION ON GOLF CHANNEL – There are eight Web.com Tour events remaining, including this week’s Mylan Classic. Seven of the eight will be televised on Golf Channel, starting this week.

DID YOU KNOW? – In 2012, 34 players have recorded two eagles in the same round. Only Brian Stuard (three times) and Luke List (twice) have repeated the accomplishment.

NEXT WEEK – Web.com Tour players will get to enjoy the Labor Day holiday with family and friends as the Tour is off next week (Sept. 3-9) for one last time this year. The stretch run to the season-ending Web.com Tour Championship at TPC Craig Ranch near Dallas (Oct. 25-28) begins at the Albertsons Boise (Idaho) Open presented by Kraft (Sept. 13-16).
