Episode 61 features music by Red Prysock, Dr. John, A.C. Reed, Otis Rush, Little Charlie & The Night Cats, Buddy Guy, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, B.B. King, Frankie Lee Sims, and Sam & Dave. Sunday, August 5 SUGAR IN MY BOWL ROOTS & BRANCHES 09 Detroit radio legend Ernie Durham—The Frantic One, retired from years of service to WJLB Radio, initiated a new program series at WDET-FM, Public Radio in Detroit, on Saturday, July 7, 1991, replacing the Blue Sensations show produced by John Sinclair every Saturday night from midnight to 2:00 am, immediately preceding Blues & Music After Hours with Famous Coachman. A box of cassettes containing the first 20 Ernie Durham shows on WDET was discovered in 2009 by Frank Bach in his garage on the east side of Detroit and the tapes were digitally transferred and edited for broadcast by John Sinclair for Radio Free Amsterdam and Detroit Life Radio. DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE JAZZ LUNATIQUE 187 David Kunian is celebrating the independence of his country with his annual reading of the Declaration of Independence accompanied by Jimi Hendrix and Kermit Ruffins, plus tunes by The Last Poets, R+R=Now, Mavis Staples, Public Enemy, and the Rebirth Brass Band. Monday, August 6 STILL KICKING JOHN SINCLAIR RADIO SHOW 768 Episode 768 is coming from the Detroit studios of Radio Free Amsterdam in the Cass Corridor, and I’m playing another round of music tonight by Guitar Johnny Nicholas from his 2-disc set called Too Many Bad Habits featuring cuts with Big Walter Horton, Boogie Woogie Red and Johnny Shines, plus two rough mixes from my new Funky D Records album, a cut from the Thelonious Monk concert I did with the Planet D Nonet at the Scarab Club last October, several cuts from a great release on Mighty Joe Young called Blues From The North Side of Chicago, and a closing little salute to Sun Ra by the Planet D Nonet that I’m sending down to David Kunian in New Orleans.
