Three heifers even dearer to 223p/kg, this one going to Chris Dale of Dales Family Butchers, , with two at 219p/kg, the heavier at 643kg realising £1,408 to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow. Bryant’s three steers all £1,500+ with biggest 771kg Limousin x realising £1,573 to J.V. Richards Ltd.

A slightly smaller entry this week met with a generally easier trade although the best beef cows were in demand with prices to match. Two cracking young Limousin x cows from Mr. C.P. Rundle of Par realising 172p/kg and 168p/kg, the dearest going to Roger Eddy of Tehidy at £1,108. On the dairy side, an 853kg Friesian from Messrs. B.L. Hearn & Partners of Whitecross sold at the top price of 118p/kg and £1,006 to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh.

A similar good entry to last week with mainly young cattle on offer but no relenting in demand and if anything trade is dearer. Top price this week at £1,075 was an Aberdeen Angus x heifer at 17½ months old for Mr. W.G Piper of , who sold further young heifers to £910, and Angus x steers to £940. A run of fourteen super single-suckled stores from Messrs. I.D. & S.S. Backway of St. Eval saw steers top at £955 for a 16/17 month old Limousin x pair, same age heifers to £945 for two, and a younger 14 month old steer pair at £925. Well-grown Friesian steers from Mr. N. Warren of Withiel hit £875 for a 17 month old trio, with a British Blue x at £925. A lovely run of thirteen named-sire Herefords from Messrs. D.C. “TOP PRICES ACHIEVED AT AUTUMN FARM MACHINERY SALES”

Lodge & Thomas’ autumn sale season kicked off with a genuine retirement sale on behalf of Messrs. S.W. & W.I. Curnow & Sons of Pollard Farm near Gweek, Helston.

The sale comprised a range of genuine and exceptionally well-maintained farm machinery, including a 2011 Case Maxxum 125 4wd tractor which sold for £29,250; and a 1998 Claas 925 telehandler which went under the hammer at £12,800.

The Auctioneers headed to Ponstreath Farm at Halfway House near Penryn to conduct the semi-retirement sale of vintage tractors, farm machinery, equipment, bygones and an extensive collection of granite on behalf of Mr. Rex & Mrs. Mary Andrew.

The sale comprised a range of exemplary, rally condition vintage tractors, including a 1971 Massey Ferguson 135 Multipower tractor which sold for £10,400. Another Massey Ferguson 135 dated 1966 realised £6,400; whilst a 1970 Ford 3000 tractor and a 1955 David Brown 25D tractor achieved £5,500 and £4,900 respectively.

Leading granite lots included a large circular trough and base selling for £3,700; a cider press selling for £3,550 and a handsome pair of gateposts which achieved £2,750. Also on offer were a substantial quantity of granite mushrooms which topped at a premium of £290 each.

Two weeks later, the Auctioneers headed to Kestal Farm, St. Hilary, Penzance to conduct a genuine unreserved auction of farm machinery on behalf of Messrs. T.R. & R.T. Tilly.

The keen audience of bidders saw the good selection of farm machinery and equipment go under the hammer, the principal lots being two 2010 John Deere tractors; the 6930 model reaching £29,900, whilst the 6630 Premium came in just under at £29,500.

Other notable lots included a 1997 Claas Dominator 88SL combine harvester which achieved £8,250; a 1985 John Deere 2140 2wd tractor which sold for £12,900; a 1995 John Deere 6400 loader tractor which reached £13,200; and a 2015 McHale F5400 round baler which went under the hammer at £12,900. - 11 - -
