Shane Mascarin recently completed the three-day Ultraman Canada in Penticton, British Columbia, which qualifies him for the Ultraman World Championship later this year. Day 1 consists of a 10km open water swim followed by a 145km bike ride. Day 2 is a 275km bike ride. Day 3 is an 85km ultra marathon run. Competitors in the Ultraman Can- ada must complete each day’s events in under 12 hours in order to complete the event, and Mascarin was able to finish the entire event in just under 31 total hours. The current Ultraman Canada for- mat was started in 1993, serving as a World Championships qualifier until 2014. It was then reinstated as an of- ficial qualifier again in 2019. The Ultraman Canada is one of only a few qualifying events for the Ultra- man World Championships, which will take place in Kona, Hawaii, from November 26-28 later this year.
