PRESIDENT’S PICNIC In celebration of our 25th anniversary the club I would like to announce the return of the Presidents Picnic. Join our fellow members for a fun-filled day of cruising and BBQ. Hosted by myself and the Llincolns on August 25th, 2018.

We will start our day in the parking lot of the South Side A&W (Gateway & 50th Ave) where you will receive a list of items, locations (4), and your first poker card along with a number of questions you will need to answer along your journey. The poker Run will end at the Lincoln property in where we will treat you to a free BBQ. We may have more surprises in store but you’ll just have to wait. The only expense is $5.00 so that we have a poker-pot at the end of the run. If you complete the questions and aquire all the items you will receive a 6th card at the BBQ to “help” your hand.

For members not wanting to join in the Poker Run, We cordially invite you to enjoy the BBQ at 3 p.m. on the Llincoln property in Tofield. Bring along your collapsable chair and “hopefully” your sun tan lotion…maybe some bug spray and enjoy yourself. Soft drinks, water, hot dogs, and salads are all provided.

Directions to the picnic site will be provided in future newsletters.

Hope to see you there!

NAPA 50 ST. CAR SHOW The car show season is starting off in earnest and I was in attendance at the 2nd Annual Car Show hosted by the folks over at the NAPA store on 50th St Saturday June 2nd. About 60 cars were on hand throughout the day, despite some pretty strong and cool winds that wrought havoc with one of the NAPA tents, lifting it up and nearly depositing it in the middle of 50th Street. Member Mike Hobbs came away with an award for his 56 Chevy sedan

THE CHIPMAN CAR CRAFTERS S&S The Chipman Car Crafters host one of the areas most successful car shows and it is one of the seasons most anticipated events. This year an estimated 400 vehicles took part in the show on a beautiful bright Sunday. A number of Mainstreet Cruisers met at the Esso on “the top of the hill” before heading out as a group to Chipman. Every year, our self-appointed parking overseer, Bruce Eastwood is up at the crack of dawn, or maybe even before, to ensure that the Mainstreet Cruisers have a great place to park close to all the action. Our heartfelt thanks to Bruce for setting out the parking area and looking out for our group. If you arrive afterwards, all are still welcome to join us in the shade tents for a little BS and relaxation out of the suns hot rays. At the end of the day, Harold Wengryn won in his class for his great looking T-bird and the Mainstreet Cruisers took home the club participation award. Congratulations, Harold and all of the Mainstreet Cruisers.

THREE HILLS CAR SHOW While most of us hung around the local shows on the first weekend in June, others headed out to check out the Three Hills Cruise Weekend. Drag races and a car show on the same weekend? What more could you ask for. More than 550 vehicles turned out for the car show on Saturday. Member Don Bodinsky shared some pictures of some of the vehicles that caught his eye. Thanks for the pictures, Don.

SHERWOOD PARK Several cars turned out Saturday morning for the Broken Pistonz and Those Guys car show in Sherwood Park. Unfortunately the threat of severe weather resulted in the show being ended after only a few hours. Still, Jack & Wendy Rac managed to gather some photos of the event for us. Thanks, Jack & Wendy.

REYNOLD’S HISTORY ROAD Saturday, June 9th was the first of two days of celebrating History Road at the Reynolds Museum in Wetaskiwin. The traffic just getting to our meeting point was horrific, with accidents on the Henday at Yellowhead Trail and then farther down just before Nisku on Highway 2, giving me a greater appreciation for not having to endure that on a daily basis. We made it to Reynolds museum, though and then sat in line for about 15 minutes with the temperature gauge moving higher and higher. Finally we got our registration papers and parked just a little ways down from several of the other members who had gone on ahead. A little cleaning to get rid of the bugs and we were off for breakfast. After a good feed, we prepared to return outdoors, only to be greeted by a fairly heavy rain. We thought it best to stay inside for a bit and explore some of the exhibits. The bulk of the exhibits were celebrating the Buicks of years gone by and all were interesting. Outside once again, we set about drying off the cars, a process we repeated several times throughout the morning. Just before lunch we received a visit from Jim Sutherland who, along with his brother Jerry, hosts the My Star Collector Car website. He did a little interview with me and then I turned him on to Jack Datzoff to hear the story of the 1964 Pontiac he acquired. Both stories will be featured in an upcoming segment on the www.mystarcollectorcar.com website. Before long the day came to a close and although no awards were handed out, I was lucky enough to win a door prize supplied by the Wetaskiwin Petro Canada. With booty in hand we headed for home.
