Both Yvonne and Terry were nominated secretly to receive the ACLC 50th Anniversary certificate and coin. There were only 50 certificates and coins given out throughout Alberta and this is only one way that the Army Cadet League of Can- ada can recognize the ded- ication of their volunteer- ism. OTTAWA: Gerald Soroka, Member of Parliament for Yel- lowhead, is pleased to advise that Natural Resources Can- ada has announced approval of the NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) Edson Mainline Expansion Project with 25 conditions. This decision was based on facts, science, Indig- enous knowledge, the public interest and careful consider- ation of the concerns of po- tentially impacted Indigenous communities. In addition to the 24 con- ditions recommended by the Commission of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), the Government of Canada has added a new condition in di- rect response to concerns raised by Indigenous groups. The proponent is required to provide funding to Indigenous groups to support their active participation in the ongoing regulatory process and to re- port on its engagement with Indigenous groups. In total, the proponent must comply with 25 binding conditions related to safety, environmen- tal and wildlife protection, and protection of Indigenous rights and interests. With the implementation of NGTL’s en- vironmental protection pro- cedures, mitigation measures and conditions, the project is unlikely to cause adverse en- vironmental effects. This $509-million project will create up to 1,470 jobs during construction and con- tribute approximately $285 million to Alberta’s GDP. June 22, 2021 CommunityVOICE Page 7

Recently I received a note from a fellow Yellowhead constituent. This note reflects the struggles we have all been facing during this COVID time. I have received many letters, emails and phone calls from concerned citizens that ex- press the myriad range of opinions and frustrations we are dealing with. I want to share Rob Duiker’s message. Have a read and let’s hope for better times ahead. “Disagreement is not bad. There is a lot of disagreement these days regarding such things as masking, distanc- ing, public health restrictions, and vaccines. A lot of friend- ships have been strained by our sometimes-heated con- versations around these top- ics. I hope our friendships are stronger than our opinions. I hope our fellowship is strong enough to cause us to remain respectful and loving with those with whom we disagree. I worry that the most pro- found consequence of this pandemic will be relationships that never recover. Will we find enough grace to overcome the name-calling and impassioned ranting from and toward peo- ple on all sides of these issues. When, hopefully someday soon, restrictions are removed and legal barriers to fellowship have been set aside, will the sting of our discourse endure? Will our churches, workplac- es, and homes continue to be marred by division rooted in Covid-19 matters? That is en- tirely up to us. Plan now to show grace to everyone. Plan now to put this behind us.” June 22, 2021 CommunityVOICE Page 9 Classified Ads - Call 962-9228
