Southern Zone Cricket Seventh Annual Report SEVENTH ANNUAL REPORT SOUTHERN ZONE CRICKET FINANCIAL STATEMENT Incorporated 2015.16 And * * * * * * YEAR BOOK Michael Arblaster Ben Mitchell 1 Southern Zone Cricket Incorporated ADMINISTARTORS REPORT I take much pleasure in presenting the 17th annual report including financial statements and year book. The cover page includes a photo of Michael Arblaster left and Ben Mitchell Right who both gained selection in the NSW country team, Michael went on to make the Australian merit team selected after the championships. Success this year by the Bradman cup team and opens who were both defeated in the finals. Left is a phot of the captains before the toss. There are many to thank for their assistance in running this volunteer sport in our Zone. The key people on the committee as chairman, Rodney Cavalier, Gary Mortimer, Phill Newlyn, Boyd Brennan and George Dickie registrar. Rodney in his first year as chairman dedication and enthusiasm during difficult times was much appreciated. Paul Brockley, Liz Macpherson and Matthew Paton our shared regional cricket managers, Graham Smith and Luke Ryan our coaching directors, Scott Moran the Zone coaching administrator in his second year, special mention to all of the coaches who assisted during the off season programs. Kyle Piper, Anna Baker from ACT cricket. Bruce Whiteman the umpires coordinator, scorers, bus drivers and selectors. Not least of all the Association secretaries, delegates, umpires, and coaching staff. Our deepest gratitude goes to NSWCCA and NSWCA for their amazing support by means of coaching and finances to our Zone. Mr Andrew Jones CEO and John Warne, of cricket NSW, Mr Bruce Whitehouse Country Programs Manager. Congratulations to Ian Hogg who was elected for his second term on the Board of CNSW at the last AGM. Ian is a valued continued supporter of Southern Zone cricket. Special mention to the coaches and managers of the various teams around the Zone, to the curators, umpires, scorers and parents thank you for your valued time and commitment. In the second year of the MOU and the impact on our Zone. My personal view and based on 23 years of experience with our Zone I believe the MOU has created chances not previously experienced for our players, the relationship with ACT has been excellent with respect and professionalism. Well done to Goulburn for their success in the Country Plate competition. Berry Shoalhaven Heads who were beaten by Parkes in the final. Our Bradman cup under16 team who were defeated by Central North the final in Newcastle. Southern ACT opens defeated by Newcastle in the country championship final. Congratulations to Michael Arblaster and Ben Mitchell who were selected in the NSW team to compete in the Australian Country Champions in Mt. Gambia. After many season of frustration South East have their name engraved on the Burns Cup defeating Goulburn in a fitting final. Shoalhaven won the Jeffrey Cup, with South Coast winning the under 14 and under 12 , Shoalhaven winning the under 16. In my last year as the administrator I reflect on the current stable of players representing Australia, states and clubs. Just to mention a few. Adam Zampa pictured receiving his hat from Alan Border. Lauren Cheatle who played in the winning Thunder final and gained selection for Australia in the twenty/20. Lauren pictured no cap. Nick Maddinson who was the captain of the Shield and one day team for CNSW. Nathan McAndrew playing in the final of the big bash for the thunder. Pictured with his brother and father. Of course the 4 players who played significant rolls in the Sydney first grade final for Bankstown Kerrod White, Nathan McAndrew, Mitchell Phelps and Phillip Wells circled in photo. Our Zone is really creating Australia’s future champions. 2 Southern Zone Cricket Inc. Women’s cricket is growing in the Zone although the changing of boundaries hurt us in the initial year. I expect our women’s teams to be more competitive in the future. Anna Baker has stepped down from her role with ACT cricket and she will be missed. Anna has been a rock and an absolute pleasure to work with. Anna pictured left. The Plan B big Bash started off with a bang for the South Coast crew team defeating ACT aces unfortunately going down to the Orana outlaws in round 2. This game was played under lights in Dubbo and an outstanding success, drawing a huge crowd in terrible weather conditions. A big thankyou to Brian Grey and Brendan White for their contribution. The CCoM has a point score for teams competing in the CCNSW competitions, Southern Zone came a creditable 3rd. It would be remiss of me not to mention Scott Moran who recently advised CNSW that he would not be seeking reappointment of his Zone Academy coaching position. In his term at Southern Zone Scott done an outstanding job. It has been tough with the MOU popping up just after he accepted the position. Scott is well respected among his peers, players and administration, last year Scott won the Country coaches award at the CCNSW annual dinner. Good luck Scott and I thank you on behalf of all players and administration in the Zone. Congratulations to those who have become parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties during the season. My Sympathy and condolences to those who have lost loved ones. I hope you enjoy the report and I look forward to a continued healthy and happy friendship with all. CHAIRMANS REPORT 2015-16 Having acted as Chair during the prolonged illness of Terry Chatterton, I became the Chairman after the death of Terry in June 2015 In remembering Terry the Southern Zone is acknowledging a lifetime of dedication to cricket, in club administration, through district and zone. Terry was one of a legion of devoted people who sustain cricket at a level below professional. My report is the opportunity to say thank you to all the selfless people who keep competitive cricket alive. Volunteers infused with dedication are the life-giving force at this level. Anyone with equipment, 22 yards in a straight line and a reasonable field surrounding can put together a game of cricket. Only a small army of volunteers working in their own time can organise competitions, the presence of qualified umpires, selection of representative teams and represent local players and coaches at higher levels of cricket. A game with scorers present enters the annals of cricket. Every game of cricket is important. Parents give so much of their own time to the junior ranks. Not only on match day but with training, transport to representative games and carnivals. Coaching is about so much more than teaching technique. A good coach imparts values, respect for umpires, appreciation of those qualities that make cricket so much more than a game. A coach who does his or her job well will have players forever in their debt. On behalf of the Zone I pay tribute to the Coaching Director, Scott Moran and his assistant coaches. Congratulations to the following winners of the Inter Association Competitions. 1 BURNS CUP - South East 2 JEFFREY CUP - Shoalhaven 3 GALLAGHER FAMILY TROPHY Under 16 - Shoalhaven 4 GRAEME SAWKINS AVIS NOWRA TROPY Under 14 - South Coast 5 HUGH NEWMAN TROPHY Under 12 - South Coast Congratulations also to Goulburn on their win in the McDonalds Country Plate and Berry Shoalhaven Heads who lost in the final of the McDonalds Country Cup. Congratulations also to our players of the various carnivals. Opens- Athol Noble Memorial Trophy Kerian Gray U17 - Bob Milgate Memorial Trophy Country carnival not played U16 - Kristian carruthers Memorial Trophy Trent Woods U14 - Grahame Rabjohns Memorial Trophy Dominic O’Shannessy Colts - The Foster Emery Trophy. Blake McDonald Women’s U15 Jade Allen The Zone was suitably resistant to a decision of Cricket NSW merging clubs from our Zone with the ACT. Our Administrator, Graeme Creighton, fought the good fight. Arguing the merits was one matter, insisting on consultation and respect for Southern Zone was another. Now in the second year of the MOU the Zone and ACT are working very close together to produce Australia’s future champions. Words are not adequate to capture the dedication of Graeme Creighton. His computer constitutes a one-person blizzard by placing himself at the junction between cricket below and the higher bodies. Graeme has represented the Zone on the board of Country Cricket. I thank Graeme. I have come to know the solid contributions of George Dickie, Boyd Brennan, Phill Newlyn and Gary Mortimer who make up our executive committee. It is a sadness for us all that disputes are a cause too often for us to come together. I thank the delegates to the Zone. The Zone can only be as effective as our efforts make possible. Thank you from the President Thank you for entering one of our Sydney Royal Competitions. Once again, I am delighted to see the remarkably high standard of entries they attract. We first judged livestock, produce, cotton and silk in the 1820s with the aim of ‘exciting in proprietors an ambition to excel above others’. This initial aim forged the charter of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) – to encourage and reward excellence, and support a viable and prosperous future for our agricultural communities. Your participation in this competition continues the tradition and wholeheartedly supports our charter. Sydney Royal Competitions highlight excellence and the passion of so many talented producers and exhibitors not only from New South Wales, but from right across the country. Winning a prestigious Sydney Royal award is a reward for hard work and dedication, and brings numerous commercial opportunities as well. Major award winners have the benefit of Sydney Royal medal artwork to promote their success to collectors, customers and consumers. The increased interest can help our rural communities to remain strong and vibrant. We review our Competitions every year, to ensure they remain relevant to industry standards and trends, and we always welcome feedback. Encouraging a dialogue with producers and exhibitors in another way in which we can retain our strong links with agricultural industries and communities. Thank you to all of our judges for their expertise and the time they dedicate to recognising the best and providing valuable feedback to entrants.
