Buckingham Palace is, of course, one of the world’s most recognisable buildings, but have you ever wanted to see inside? Throughout August you can do so as the palace has its annual Summer Opening. The BBC Proms are a British institution and this month there is a programme of musical performances for people of all ages. As well as limited £6 ‘Promming’ tickets, there are free places available at many events, including concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. This is the month when the Notting Hill Carnival enlivens the streets of west London. Join millions of Londoners as they dance alongside a parade bursting with colour and incredible costumes. Whether you come for the music or stay for the food, carnival is an experience like no other. Whichever way you choose to spend your time in London, I hope you have a fantastic visit! Whichever you pick, these multitasking locations will make sure everybody’s happy. 10 | LONDON PLANNER FAMILY FUN KidZania SOUTH KENSINGTON You might not have heard of it, but we bet you’re considering a visit to Albertopolis. This smart area is home to the Victoria & Albert Museum (the V&A), the Royal Albert Hall, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum, which all exist thanks to Queen Victoria’s enterprising husband. AUGUST 2018 | 11 ALEXANDRA PALACE FAMILY FUN This north London landmark is home to Alexandra Park, which has been open since 1863 and has majestic city views. It also offers a skate park, pitch and putt (simple golfing for any age group), a boating lake, ice skating and Go Ape. Designed for adults and children, Go Ape takes participants up into the trees, to climb along walkways and fly down zip wires. There are various difficulty levels, so every age bracket in your group should be covered. If Mum and Dad fancy a drink, head to StrEATlife festival (18 Aug). With craft beer bars, music and delicious food options, it’s open from noon until 10pm and kids are welcome – this could be a good PARKS ESY OF THE ROYAL way to introduce them to festival life.
