Chesapeake Bayhawks Beat Denver Outlaws 14-13 Chesapeake Bayhawks Beat Denver Outlaws 14-13 Posted by TBN On 05/08/2011 Annapolis, MD. - The Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) hosted the Denver Outlaws in a tightly contested pre-season game Saturday evening at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD. After trailing the entire game, the Bayhawks scored two goals in the final minute to complete the come back and win 14-13. The Bayhawks were led by Blake Miller’s three goal effort which included the game tying goal.“It was a great team effort tonight,” said Bayhawks Head Coach Brendan Kelly following the victory. “I was happy to see how we came out in the second half. Everybody really came together and we jelled as a team. Just a really great effort.” The Outlaws opened the game drawing first blood in the early minutes. The Bayhawks responded with their first goal from Midfielder Michael Kimmel, but Denver countered with three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. Chesapeake cut the lead in half with the first of Miller’s three goals to close out the first quarter trailing 4-2. Miller continued to keep the Bayhawks in the game with his second goal early in the second frame. Miller is one of the Bayhawks newest arrivals as the Bayhawks selected him from the player pool in April. The second quarter was back and forth as both teams found their scoring touch. The half closed with a goal from Kimmel in the final five seconds to bring the game to 8-5. Chesapeake continued to chip away in the third quarter, closing the score to 10-9. Kyle Dixon scored his only goal of the game early in the third quarter to help lead the Bayhawks back. Ben Hunt, who had two goals on the night, converted a feed from Ben Rubeor just off the top of the crease as he was hit to continue the Bayhawks surge. Rubeor contributed two goals of his own in the outing as well. The Outlaws opened the final quarter with two quick goals, but the Bayhawks fought back with two goals from Brendan Cannon and one from Ryan Hurley. Cannon’s second goal knotted the score at 12-12 with eight minutes to play. After strong defense on both sides, the Outlaws took the edge at 13-12. As the game entered the final minute of play, Miller recorded the hat trick with his third goal to tie the game. Less than 15 seconds later, Justin Smith gave the Bayhawks their first lead of the night at 14-13. After a key face-off win by Bayhawks specialist Alex Smith, Chesapeake was able to run out the final seconds and secure the victory. Special teams played a key role in the Bayhawks’ victory. The team went 2 for 3 on extra-man opportunities with goals from Hunt and Brian Carroll. Alex Smith was strong all game at the face-off X winning 14 of his 20 face-off attempts. In net, Brian Phipps led the Bayhawks with five saves on eight shots faced and recorded the win. Copyright © 2021 thebaynet.com. All rights reserved. Page 1.

One simple question can ultimately give eight kids the chance of a lifetime: the chance to be a part of a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Semi-Final Game. MLL announced today an essay contest in conjunction with CONNY Youth Lacrosse (CONNY) that will give youth lacrosse players the opportunity to participate as a ball boy/girl during the 2016 Semi-Final Game at Rafferty Stadium at Fairfield University on Saturday, August 13. “We’re excited to be working closely with CONNY again, on this Semi-Final Game and providing kids the opportunity through this essay contest to be part of the action so close to the field,” says MLL Commissioner David Gross. The essay contest is open to all youth lacrosse players ages 12 and up. Those interested in the chance to join the playoff action must submit an essay of up to 500 words, double-spaced, answering the question, “What does lacrosse mean to you?” Jack Couch, Secretary of CONNY Lacrosse, will review the submitted essays and a selection committee will choose eight deserving winners. “CONNY is thrilled to be teaming with the MLL once again on our essay contest," says President Emeritus of CONNY Bob Russell. "The opportunity for all of our players and their families to be gifted with the chance to not only watch the best lacrosse players in the world compete, but to be an integral part of the game will make for an amazing experience.” CONNY is one of the preeminent volunteer-run associations for youth lacrosse in the United States.

  • 2012 Boston Cannons Media Guide
2012 Media Guide About Major League Lacrosse BACKGROUND: During the summer of 1998, Jake “Body By Jake” Steinfeld was inspired to start a professional outdoor lacrosse league after reading a magazine article about the growth of the sport of lacrosse. Steinfeld sought out a contributor to the article, Owner and President of Warrior Lacrosse Dave Morrow, a leading lacrosse equipment manufacturer, to discuss formation of such a league. In February 1999 Steinfeld and Morrow joined forces with Steinfeld’s friend and business associate Tim Robertson, Chairman of Bay Shore Enterprises and former CEO of the Family Channel, to form Major League Lacrosse, LLC, a Virginia limited liability company. In 2003, New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. came on board as a Founding Member of Major League Lacrosse, as well as an Anchor Level League Sponsor. Major League Lacrosse began play in 2001 to capitalize on the growing demand for world-class field lacrosse driven by dramatic growth in the U.S. lacrosse market. The MLL was praised and heralded for its on-field play, regarded as the best ever seen. With a year-on-year attendance increase, Major League Lacrosse has continued to lead the sport of lacrosse into the mainstream of competitive team sports. OUR TEAMS: MLL is comprised of eight teams across the US and Canada. The Boston Cannons, Long Island Lizards, and Chesapeake Bayhawks (formerly Baltimore and Washington) have been members of the League since its inception in 2001. The Denver Outlaws began play in 2006 as part of the League’s western expansion. The Hamilton Nationals (formerly Toronto) joined MLL in 2009 as the League’s first international team.
