The Hounds have yet to beat the Outlaws since joining the MLL as an expansion team in the 2012 season. The Outlaws are making their eighth consecutive postseason appearance, dating back to their inception in 2006, while the Hounds this season earned their first-ever playoff berth. In the first week of play, Chris Bocklet paced the Outlaws to a 21-16 victory, notching six goals while registering a .667 shooting percentage. Terry Kimener and Jeremy Sieverts each added a hat trick while Drew Snider dished off three assists. The Hounds’ effort was led by team captain Matt Danowski, who scored five goals and added an assist. But the Hounds felt the absence of starting goalie Adam Ghitelman, as backup Mark Manos allowed a season-high 20 goals. The Outlaws, meanwhile, were anchored by Anthony Kelly, who went 19-29 (.655%) at the faceoff X. When the teams met again in June, the Hounds boasted a much improved roster thanks to the addition of several rookies, but burned themselves by amassing 12 penalties minutes, allowing the Outlaws eight man-up opportunities. The Outlaws capitalized, scoring four power-play goals – including a 2-pointer – to build a six-point advantage early in the third quarter. The Hounds were never able to recover, despite Tim Fallon going 18-31 (.581%) at the faceoff X, as Jesse Schwartzman backstopped the Outlaws with 27 saves in the 17-11 win. Eric Law led the Outlaws with five points (4g, 1a), while Mike Sawyer paced the Hounds with three goals. This weekend's matchup features two of the league’s top-scoring squads, both showcasing a core of veteran leadership complemented by young talent. The Outlaws may appear to be the obvious favorite, but the Hounds are riding high on momentum after winning three of their final four games to earn a spot in the semifinals. If the defense buckles down and the team keeps the penalties in check, the Hounds have a serious shot to end the Outlaws’ bid for perfection. Both teams are fighting to hoist the Steinfeld Torphy for the first time.

The Tewaaraton Award is presented to the most outstanding men’s and women’s collegiate lacrosse player as determined by two selection committees, consisting of collegiate coaches throughout all divisions of the sport.
