F 6-5 Seattle (Seattle Prep) Scouting Hamline After notching only three wins last season, the Pipers have become a very competitive team this year. Hamline started off the season picking up three wins in their first four games. But after such MIAC an encouraging start, the Pipers fell flat on their faces, losing nine of 11 contests. Hamline, with a 1-8 conference record on Jan. 19, looked doomed to have another season as a MIAC also-ran. But Standings since then the Pipers have had an incredible run, winning six of seven games, including victories MIAC Overall against first-place St. Thomas, at St. John’s and at Bethel. Hamline is currently the hottest team in St. Thomas 13-3 17-4 the MIAC and perhaps the most dangerous as well. Swingman Josh Hanson and guard Tyler Petrich Gustavus 11-5 15-6 have led the Pipers’ turnaround. Hanson is the team’s top scorer and rebounder, with 13.3 points Carleton 11-5 14-7 per game and 5.8 boards per game. Hanson is also tops on the team with 21 steals, but gives away Bethel 11-6 13-9 much more than he takes as he leads the Pipers with an inauspicious 71 turnovers. Petrich is the St. John’s 9-7 10-11 team’s second-leading scorer and rebounder, with 5.5 boards per game and 13.2 points per game. Macalester 7-9 9-12 Sophomore center Paul Muenchow puts in 11.3 points per game on 56.8 percent shooting. He pulls St. Olaf 7-9 11-10 down 4.5 rebounds a game and has 34 blocks on the year. Guard Jerome Williams leads the team Hamline 7-9 11-10 with 52 assists (compared to only 36 turnovers) and contributes 8.9 points per game. As a team the Augsburg 7-10 10-12 Pipers shoot 38.0 percent from behind the arc, which is good for second in the MIAC. They are Concordia 6-12 7-15 Saint Mary’s 2-16 2-20 fourth in conference in field goal percentage at 45.2 percent. Despite having no one who averages more than 5.8 boards per game, Hamline is only -0.1 in rebounding margin on the season. Results Feb. 5 Christensen named MIAC player of the week Carleton 76, St. Mary's 55 Augsburg 74, Bethel 62 Scott Christensen has been named the MIAC’s player of the week after leading the Knights to St. Thomas 68, Concordia 57 three victories last week. Christensen averaged 15.0 points, 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds and St. John's 74, St. Olaf 70 moved past the 400-assist mark for his career in the process.
