F 6-5 Seattle (Seattle Prep) Feb. 19, 2003, at Carleton 78, St. John’s 70: Scott Christensen matched his career high with 25 points, canning 7-of-11 shots and all three of his 3-point attempts as Carleton held on to beat St. John's. Kyle Beste added 17 points for the Knights. Carleton shot 50.0 percent from the floor for the MIAC game and a school-record 72.7 percent from behind the arc, making 8-11 three pointers. Kevin Buth paced St. John's with 23 points and Paul Henrichs and Shawn McGuire added 12 points each. Standings MIAC Overall Scouting St. John’s St. Thomas 16-4 20-5 The Johnnies are in the MIAC playoffs for the fourth straight season, despite losing seven of Gustavus 15-5 19-6 their final eleven games. St. John’s needs to win the conference tournament to avoid finishing with Carleton 13-7 16-9 a losing record for the first time since the 1997-1998 season. This season the Johnnies have been Bethel 12-8 14-11 led by senior guard Kevin Buth, who leads the MIAC in scoring with an average of 21.7 points per St. Olaf 11-9 15-10 game. Buth is also St. John’s best three point shooter at 36.6 percent. Additionally, he pulls down St. John’s 10-10 11-14 4.5 rebounds per game and averages 2.3 assists per game. Post player Shawn McGuire grabs 5.6 Augsburg 8-12 11-14 rebounds per game and scores 11.2 points per game. McGuire is the only other Johnnie to average Hamline 8-12 12-13 double figures in scoring. Junior point guard Pat McKenzie averages 5.0 assist per game, which is Concordia 8-12 9-15 second in the conference behind Carleton’s Scott Christensen. McKenzie averages 2.0 steals per Macalester 7-13 9-16 Saint Mary’s 2-18 2-22 game, which is good for third in the MIAC, while contributing 8.3 points per game. Big man Andrew Sherburne pulls down 5.1 rebounds per game and scores 6.6 points per game.Despite having no Results player average more than 5.6 rebounds per game, the Johnnies have a +2.6 rebounding margin. But Feb. 19 St. John’s has a -1.5 turnover margin and shoots only 32.6 percent from behind the arc. As a result, St. Olaf 82, St. Thomas 80, 3OT Hamline 81, Macalester 73 the Johnnies are third-to-last in the conference in scoring offense at 68.3 points per game.
