Nomencl. 4 : 51—56, 57—59), by the Thirteenth International Congress of Zoology, Paris, July 1948 (see 1950, Bull, zool. Nomencl. 5 : 5—13, 131). (a) Date of commencement by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature of voting on applications published in the " Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature " Notice is hereby given that normally the International Commission will start to vote upon applications published in the Bulletin of Zoological Nomen¬ clature on the expiry of a period of six calendar months from the date of publication in the Bulletin of the applications in question. Any specialist who may desire to comment upon any of the applications published in the present Part (Vol. 12, Part 5) of the Bulletin is accordingly invited to do so in writing to the Secretary to the Commission, as quickly as possible and in any case, in sufficient time to enable the communication in question to reach the Secretariat of the Commission before the expiry of the six-month period referred to above. Original from and digitized by National University of Singapore Libraries Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature 131 PROPOSED VALIDATION UNDER THE PLENARY POWERS OF THE GENERIC NAME " SAO " BARRANDE, 1846 (CLASS TRILOBITA) By CHRISTIAN POULSEN (Universitetets Mineralogisk-Geologiske Institut, Mineralogisk Museum, Copenhagen, Denmark) (Commission's reference : Z.N.(S.) 666) The purpose of the present application is to ask the International Com¬ mission on Zoological Nomenclature to use its Plenary Powers for the purpose of validating the long-familiar generic name Sao Barrande, 1846 (Class Tri- lobita). That this generic name is technically invalid has long been known, but owing to the special importance of this genus no attempt has ever been made to replace it by some other name. Nor is the project that the Commission should be asked to validate the name Sao Barrande a new one, for already during the recent war Rudolf Richter in a paper entitled " Nomina conservanda : Antrag auf Aufhebung der ' Regeln ' zu Gunsten von Sao Barrande 1846 " (1941, Senckenbergiana 23 : 291-293) recommended the adoption of this course. 2. The age of the genus Sao Barrande is Middle Cambrian and the genus is of exceptional importance since it represents the most classical case of the developmental history of a trilobite species. The work on trilobites published in 1852 (Syst. Silur. Boheme) in which Barrande published his conclusions in regard to this genus was a pioneer study of its kind and was based upon material which was exceptional both for its state of preservation and for its completeness from the early protaspid stage to the adult. The figures given by Barrande are widely reproduced in general text-books both of zoology and palaeontology. It would be little short of a disaster if this historic name were to be cast aside for the sake of some narrow nomenclatorial technicality. These new species belong to the widespread and diverse subfami- ly Dryininae. A neotype is designated for Harpactosphecion gracile (BRUES, 1933b) comb. nov. which was originally described in the extant genus Thaumatodryinus and is here trans- ferred to the fossil genus Harpactosphecion within Dryininae, just like Harpactosphecion? deletum (BRUES, 1933b) comb. nov. The spelling of the names of the species here attributed to the genus Harpactosphecion is changed to gracile, deletum, filicorne, and sucinum in accor- dance with Art. 30 IRZN. New specimens of Dryinus bruesi (OLMI, 1984), Dryinus janzeni OLMI, 1999b, Harpactosphecion filicorne (BRUES, 1923), and Palaeoanteon janzeni OLMI, 1999b are figured, and a new subfamily Palaeoantoninae n. subf. is established because of the new evidence. The fossil subfamily Laberitinae OLMI, 1989 is regarded as unavailable taxon since the type genus Laberites PONOMARENKO, 1988 is not available either. Updated keys to the subfamilies of Dryinidae, the genera of Dryininae, and all dryinid species from Baltic am- ber are provided, as well as an annotated catalogue of all fossil Dryinidae. Suarez ABSTRACT Dryinidae is a family of ectoparasitoid wasps with cosmopolitan distribution that exclusively preys on and parasitizes members of the suborder Auchenorrhyncha (Hemiptera). Host records of these important biocontrol agents are fragmentary because previous records have been based on tedious laboratory rearing of parasitized individuals requiring environmental control and long waiting periods, usually with limited success. Molecular phylogenetic methods provide an alternative to expand knowledge of dryinid host breadth by DNA sequencing of host attached parasitoid larvae. For this study, 142 late-stage dryinid larvae were removed from parasitized individuals of Auchenorrhyncha (Hemiptera), mostly from a wet insect collection at the Illinois Natural History Survey representing all major biogeographic regions. The 28S D2-D3 nuclear ribosomal gene region was amplified using PCR and sequenced. Attempts to sequence Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1, Cytochrome B and 18S DNA regions were unsuccessful due to contamination with host DNA. Sequence data were combined with data from a previous phylogenetic study based on adults and a maximum likelihood tree search was performed in the IQ-Tree webserver. The best tree was used to explore the significance of natural history traits including distribution, host taxonomy and habitat, for explaining host association patterns.

The family includes 50 genera and 16 subfamilies (Olmi and Xu 2015; Tribull 2015). In the Palaearctic region, the subfamily Dryininae is represented by two extant genera, Dryinus Latreille, 1804 and Pseudodryinus Olmi, 1991. Pseudodryinus is known only from the Eastern Palaearctic subregion and Dryinus from both Palaearctic subregions, Eastern and Western (Olmi and Xu 2015). A review of the Western Palaearctic Dryininae (Hymenoptera, Dryinidae) was published by Olmi (1984), and he listed a total of nine species.

The known fossil species are only 45 (GUGLIELMINO & OLMI 2011, 2012; OLMI et al. 2010, 2011; OLMI & GUGLIELMINO 2011) (see the complete list in Discussion). Chrysidoidea is de¿ nitely a holophyletic group including Plumariidae as its most basal taxon, Scolebythidae the next most basal, and Bethylidae + Chrysididae as the sister group of Sclerogibbidae + (Dryinidae + Embolemidae) (BROTHERS & CARPENTER 1993, CARPENTER 1999, RASNITSYN & QUICKE 2002).
