.................................................................................................. 12 3.3 Útihátíð ........................................................................................................................... 15 3.4 Listahátíð ........................................................................................................................ 17 3.5 Ný hátíð á Vestfjörðum ................................................................................................... 18 4 Menningarlegur tilgangur .......................................................................................... 20 4.1 Fyrirmyndir ..................................................................................................................... 21 4.2 Hátíðir tileinkaðar listum og menningu á Vestfjörðum ..................................................... 21 4.2.1 Listi yfir hátíðir á Vestfjörðum síðastliðin ár ............................................................. 23 5 LÚR fyrir hvað stendur það?

Music Reading Read the passage, the e-mail and the festival guide. The Glastonbury Festival is an unforgettable sight. For three days, 280 hectares of peaceful farm country in the beautiful Somerset Valley become a vast, colourful tent city. The Glastonbury Festival is Britain's largest outdoor rock concert, and it attracts crowds of more than 100,000 people. It has six separate stages for musicians to play on. It has eighteen markets where fans can buy things. It has its own daily newspaper and is even broadcast live on television. It also raises large amounts of money for several charities, including Greenpeace and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Glastonbury is just one of many events on the international music festival calendar each year. For dance music fans, there's Creamfields, the Essential Festival and Homelands - all in the UK. Rock fans have Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic in Japan, and the Livid Festival and the Big Day Out in Australia. And the crowds just keep getting bigger. In fact, the size of some of these festivals is causing problems. Since the deaths of nine people at Roskiide in 2000 and the death of a young woman at the 2001 Big Day Out, festival organisers and local police have been working together to make sure festival-goers stay safe. Despite these tragic events, festivals are more popular than ever. And it's not just about the music. It's about making new friends and partying non-stop for days at a time. It's about dancing till you can't stand up anymore and then crashing in someone else's tent.

As large crowds move between concerts, campsites, private parties and public viewing of the FIFA world cup soccer matches across the vast festival area, previously available visualization solutions for the crowd safety staff at Roskilde Festival lack a real-time visualization of crowd trajectory for monitoring of previously known chokepoints and the discovery of potential future chokepoints.

  • 12 Large Festivals
Large Festivals – Great 12 Struggles János Zoltán Szabó Introduction Contemporary music festivals in late modern European culture have different histories, focuses, missions and geographical conditions. This chapter calls for deeper analysis of the development of festivals that is rooted in cultural anthro- pology, sociology and the sciences – a multidisciplinary approach. Without this, festivals will simply be known as recurring celebrations, thematic ritual events reflecting the basic values and the worldview shared by the participants that are the basis of their social identity. However, nowadays, the economic importance of festivals has become even more rigorously evaluated, whilst complicated ways to measure cultural impact are often left out, even from detailed reports. Most studies emphasise the difference between Eastern and Western European festivals (Newbold et al. 2015), however, the life cycle of a festival is influenced by factors that are similar wherever they take place: marketing, promotions, sales, audience development and quality, improvement challenges etc. As the size of the festival market has grown, new questions are being asked about eco- nomic efficiency. In this study I will search for similarities in the development of five major Eastern and Western European festivals, namely Glastonbury Festival (United Kingdom), Roskilde Festival (Denmark), Sziget Festival (Hungary), Exit Festival (Serbia), and Woodstock Festival Poland (Poland). I will also analyse the Sziget Festival’s life cycle in detail in order to go deeper into the issues and discuss ways to further research music festivals. In analysing these festivals, the main selection criterion was what they have in common: they attract more than 100,000 visitors yearly, but readers might also recognise that all of them follow the message of the original Woodstock Music and Art Fair – commonly called Woodstock Festival and labelled as ‘An Aquarian Expo- sition: 3 Days of Peace and Music’, in Bethel, New York, 15 – 18 August, 1969.

  • The Largest Music Event in Scandinavia Presents This Year's
The largest music event in Scandinavia presents this year’s lineup With the addition of Jack White, this year’s biggest rock icon, Roskilde Festival has added another great headliner to this year’s lineup, which already includes Bruce Springsteen, Björk, The Cure, Mew, Bon Iver, and The Roots. Today’s lineup release also brings great news to fans of Alison Krauss, Machine Head, Janelle Monáe, The Cult, Santigold and Amadou & Mariam. Extremely melodic The Shins are returning to Roskilde Festival with a brand new and already very popular record, and exciting new bands such as Django Django, Cold Specks and Clock Opera have also been added to the poster. Music director Rikke Øxner says: "It's a difficult art presenting an artist at the perfect time in their career, but I think we've succeeded in doing so with a large part of our bookings. Needless to say, we also need to present timeless artists such as The Cult, Alison Krauss and Machine Head, as well as the brand new artists, whose great career still lies ahead of them." Throughout the years Roskilde Festival has presented unique musical set ups and 2012 will not be any exception. The international super group Apparatjik, DJ Static and music collective Copenhagen Collaboration are already preparing unique Roskilde Festival shows designed especially for this summer’s festival. Furthermore, Roskilde Festival has announced a new stage for electronic music, Apollo, which will host some of the hottest bands of the genre, such as Modeselektor and Pretty Lights. With the addition of another stage, the total number of bands on Roskilde Festival comes close to 200.
