OF THE STATE OF Sixty-third Legislature Second Regular Session - 2016

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

BY STATE AFFAIRS

1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND SUPPORTING THE CONGRESSIONAL PRAYER 3 CAUCUS FOUNDATION, INC., AS WE PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY AND STATE.

4 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:

5 WHEREAS, the citizens and residents of the , throughout 6 American history, have drawn strength, hope and guidance from prayer; and 7 WHEREAS, from the First Continental to the present day, 8 through every form of adversity and blessing, have implored and 9 thanked God Almighty for protecting, preserving and healing our families and 10 our land; and 11 WHEREAS, American civilization was founded on the principle of reli- 12 gious freedom, recognizing the right of all Americans to worship or decline 13 to worship as we see fit; and 14 WHEREAS, the freedom to worship is not diminished merely because a per- 15 son is elected to public office, and public servants who believe in the power 16 of prayer will often seek inspiration from prayer in the work of serving the 17 nation and people we love; and 18 WHEREAS, the Bible records in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that God told King 19 Solomon: "If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and 20 pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from 21 heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."; and 22 WHEREAS, in early 2005, a small group of members of the United States 23 House of Representatives began meeting in Room 219 of the United States 24 Capitol to pray for our nation, and soon thereafter formed the Congressional 25 Prayer Caucus to vigilantly observe and protect the right of individuals to 26 pray in America; and 27 WHEREAS, their vision for the caucus inspired them to form the Congres- 28 sional Prayer Caucus Foundation, Inc., which is a nonpartisan, nonprofit or- 29 ganization designed to support the call of America to prayer; and 30 WHEREAS, on the 7th of March 2015, members of Congress and state legis- 31 lators from all across America gathered for the purpose of calling the nation 32 back to prayer, realizing the benefit of turning to God and prayer, not for a 33 single day or a single month, but without ceasing. 34 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular 35 Session of the Sixty-third Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives 36 and the Senate concurring therein, that we respectfully and humbly invite 37 the people of Idaho to join us in supporting the Congressional Prayer Caucus 38 Foundation, Inc., as we pray for God's continued blessing of our country and 39 our state. 40 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we respectfully and humbly thank God and the 41 people of Idaho for the opportunity to serve.
