Narration: He is famous for writing 38 plays which are in three categories - comedies, histories and tragedies. He is also famous for writing 154 sonnets, which are special poems that have 14 rhyming lines and 10 syllables. Which of these have you heard before? [After starting the narration, repeatedly click on the slide to reveal the pictures and captions while it plays.] Narration: We have evidence which shows that Shakespeare was baptised 26th April 1564, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He was buried at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford upon Avon 25th April 1616, during the reign of James I. You can see this in the church's records. It is possible that he was born and died on the same date 52 years apart! He went to school in the town and, although found his fame in London, returned to live in Stratford-upon-Avon and bought a house called New Place, which is where he lived until his death. Slide 7 - Shakespeare's family Narration: Shakespeare’s parents, John and Mary Shakespeare had eight children in total. At the age of 18, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. They had three children Susanna was the eldest and Hamnet and Judith were twins. Slide 8 - The Globe Narration: The Globe was built in 1599 and was the theatre where Shakespeare’s plays were performed. It was destroyed twice in its lifetime. The Globe Theatre that we know today opened in 1997 and was built close to its original site. Slide 9 - Shakespeare remembered today Narration: Many people from all over the world visit Stratford-upon-Avon to experience Shakespeare more closely. For over 400 years, his plays and sonnets have been the inspiration for all sorts of creative work.
