Wherever possible, other records are researched to provide insights into the lives of the families who lived in the Parish.     INTRODUCTION | CHALLENGES | VISION, AIMS AND SPATIAL STRATEGY POLICIES | APPENDICES | SETTLEMENTS SETTLEMENT PROFILE STICHILL This profile should be read in conjunction with the relevant settlement map. DESCRIPTION Stichill is partially located within the Central Borders Strategic Development Area as defined in the Development Strategy in the Strategic Development Plan and is located in the Central Housing Market Area, 3 miles to the north of Kelso. According to the 2001 Census the population of the settlement was 126. PLACE MAKING CONSIDERATIONS Stichill is situated in an elevated position with views to the south over Eden Water and the Tweed Valley towards the Cheviot Hills. Development within the settlement is focused along Ednam Road and the B6364, Kelso to Greenlaw Road, which runs through the village. There has been recent development within Stichill at Ednam Road and there is no land proposed for development within Stichill in the period of this Local Development Plan. However the village is located within the Central Strategic Development Area and development could potentially take place in the future. The Plan identifies one greenspace for protection within Stichill at the Village Hall Play Area. INFRASTRUCTURE CONSIDERATIONS Affordable Housing will require to be provided in association with proposed housing sites under the provisions of Policy HD1 and the Supplementary Guidance/Supplementary Planning Guidance on Affordable Housing. The accommodation and facilities at Kelso High School have been identified as being unsuitable for future use particularly when the areas for longer term development are taken onto account. It has been agreed to build a new, modern school nearby the current site.

John 3:16 I wonder when these words first meant something to you? We come into this Easter time wondering what the future has in store for us as individuals and as churches as we begin the process of un-locking down! Things change yet God’s love remains constant. Karl Barth the great theologian, when asked what the most important message of the Bible was, quoted a hymn we all know from childhood – Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so. In the midst of all the changes let us remember this truth – true for all people everywhere for all time. This Easter has seen our church buildings closed, yet our churches are alive with worship and our witness as we work together in our communities to help those in need. God’s church without walls is alive and well! I am very pleased to tell you the results of the vote on whether or not E&Y, Ashkirk and Selkirk should form a new linkage of churches. Overall votes: FOR linking 314, AGAINST 7, with 2 spoilt votes. (turnout was 97.8% of the voter roll) Ashkirk: for 27, against 1 (turnout 80%) Ettrick and Yarrow: for 87, against 3 (turnout 62.5%) Selkirk: for 200, against 3 with 2 invalid votes. (turn out 64.3%) The vote for linking Ettrick & Yarrow with Ashkirk and Selkirk was therefore overwhelmingly positive.

Benton ABSTRACT: The Ordovician and Silurian rocks of the Southern Uplands of Scotland have been interpreted as sediments deposited on the northern margin of the Iapetus Ocean. Trace fossils are abundant at many localities in ocean-floor turbidites and mudstones that usually lack all other evidence of life. Twelve ichnogenera are present, and they are mainly meandering locomotion and feeding trails and burrow networks: Dictyodora, Caridolites, Helminthoida, Neonereites, Nereites, Protovirgularia, Gordia, Megagrapton, Paleodictyon, Chondrites, Plano- lites and Skolithos. The trace fossils occur in at least five distinct assemblages and the composition of these was probably controlled by the frequency and nature of the turbidity currents, and possibly by the oxygen content of the mudstones. Where turbidity currents were weak, abundant Dictyodora, together with Caridolites, Neonereites, Nereites, Protovirgularia and Gordia occur in various combinations. Where currents were stronger, traces such as Gordia, Paleodictyon and Megagrapton may be exhumed and cast on turbidite soles, and the sand may contain Skolithos. The 'deep-sea' Nereites trace fossil facies is divisible into several assemblages, presumably environmentally controlled. A summary of the discussion on Community Transport: Solutions and Actions was attached as an appendix to the Minute. 3.0 TRANSPORT UPDATE 3.1 Following the presentation given at the meeting on 25 September 2029, Timothy Stephenson, Transport Manager was in attendance to give a verbal update on Transport Planning. It was explained that the Council had a statutory obligation to transport Pupils and not to provide Local Bus Services. Subsidies on local bus services (LBS) cost £1.5m per annum and moved 1m travellers and as with other Local Authorities budgets of the LBS were always being reviewed. Savings made in 2018 totalled £200k and were based on data collected on-bus and passenger trends, providing alternatives and some innovative thinking. Savings in 2019 of £85k were already secured without further cuts to bus services and £165k of budget savings were needed in 2020.
