Crypto Against COVID Impact Report Executive Summary This report outlines the response and continued activities of Binance Charity over the 10-month timeframe since the global outbreak of COVID-19. We are providing easy access to needed information on our Crypto Against COVID campaign, as well as the magnitude of the pandemic. Binance Charity’s current efforts involve fundraising, sourcing and deploying resources such as essential medical supplies and basic health care equipment, and providing them directly to the end beneficiaries at no cost to an in-depth network of domestically run partners of health organizations. Binance Charity’s COVID-19 response efforts have centered on the mission to aid and safeguard doctors and healthcare professionals with essential personal protecting instruments (PPE). Binance for Wuhan In early February, Binance Charity distributed its first shipment of PPE in response to the COVID outbreak in Wuhan. Binance committed to a 10 million RMB fund in medical supplies donation through its “Binance for Wuhan” project. The initiative had purchased 366,000 pairs of gloves, 56,800 masks, 20,000 testing kits, 20,000 pairs of goggles, 7,850 protective suits, 5,280 bottles of hand sanitizers, 1,000 germicidal lamps, 388 oxygen concentrators, 9 sterilizers, and roughly five tons of disinfectant. These supplies have been dispatched to over 300 hospitals and medical health care heroes from Hubei, Sichuan, Guangxi, Shanghai, and other Chinese provinces at the focal point of the pandemic. Please see Appendix A for a full list of supported hospitals. Crypto Against COVID Learning from the shortages of medical supplies from around the world and since then, the Binance has donated $3 million, and several generous donors contributed an additional $1 million. Through the $4 million collected, more than 1.5 million personal protective equipment (PPEs) have been used to aid over 100 hospitals in over 26 countries around the world, especially nations that were affected the most by the coronavirus. 2 Globally in the past week, 4 million new cases of COVID-19 were recorded, while recent deaths have continued to increase to over 73,000. This brings the cumulative numbers to over 65.8 million reported cases and 1.5 million deaths globally since the start of the pandemic. 1 Expenditure Over the past six months, Binance Charity has spent $3.5 million on response efforts — nearly 87 percent of the $4 million in contributions it received — across the following 25 countries in 5 continents: Argentina, Barbados, Bermuda, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ghana, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Sierra Leone (pending shipment), South Africa, Spain, St. Lucia, Turkey, UK , Ukraine, US, Venezuela, and Vietnam. 1 https://www.who.int/publications/m/item/weekly-epidemiological-update-8-december-2020 3 Expenditure by Country Cases have been reported on every continent except Antarctica. The vast majority of cases and deaths are now outside mainland China, where the outbreak began. After the immediate help in Wuhan, Binance Charity has aided the 8 countries 2 most affected by COVID-19 (United States, Brazil, Russia, India, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Peru) by providing professional-grade PPE to over 100 hospitals around the world. 2 Data sources: WHO, CDC, ECDC, NHC and DSY : Johns Hopkins Csse, worldometer, DCD 4 5 Expenditure by Region As the pandemic has spread across the globe, the virus has left a trail of deaths in its wake. Deaths in Europe and North America now outnumber Asia’s. In Africa, Latin America, South America and the Caribbean. Binance Charity responded accordingly and provided the necessary PPE supplies to areas that are most in need. 6 7 Procurement COVID-19 has hit our world by storm. It is a catastrophe that we did not prepare for. Due to this, many medical institutions quickly ran out of supplies and lacked the essentials to facilitate all the oncoming patients. Binance Charity immediately took action and set forth in helping the Hubei Province by providing professional-grade PPEs to these facilities in need. Products stand the chance of being fake or of low quality, and are also immensely more expensive. Binance Charity set up a strict screening team with the help of external health care experts and a standard process of purchasing. As the unexpected outbreak quickly spread, the shortage of masks, protective suits, goggles, gloves, and other kinds of medical supplies spread all over the world. Binance Charity was able to source qualified PPEs made in China and sought out to aid the health care staff that were in immediate danger. Caring for our health care heroes was not enough, Binance Charity also sought to take action and aid the large number of suspected patients by providing disinfection liquids and providing test kits to hospitals. Without these liquids and test kits, these patients wander around increasing the risk of transmission. Integro Foundation has committed $333,333 USD towards the campaign, with Binance Charity matching this commitment 2:1, resulting in a total of more than $1 million USD in cryptocurrencies. The funds will go towards providing PPE medical supplies to hospitals, the medical community and first responders in Puerto Rico and Latin America countries. Brazil Amazonia Indigenous tribes in northern Brazil are benefiting from an important donation offered by Binance Charity. Donations raised through their #CryptoAgainstCOVID social media campaign worldwide were used to combat the pandemic. Only in Brazil did Binance Charity make two donations to fight COVID-19. Part of this amount was used to benefit the Brazilian indigenous tribes, another to benefit Santa Casa de Paolo. Indigenous peoples experience a high degree of socio-economic marginalization and are at disproportionate risk in public health emergencies. W ith a portion of the raised amount, a total of 65,400 KN95 masks were delivered by Binance 9 Charity. The journey was a long, hard battle, but it united many parties in a dire time and showed a beautiful collaboration between the Brazilian bureaucracy, customs brokers, Indigenous tribe, and our volunteers. A special thank you to all parties and the Federation of Indigenous Peoples of Para (FEPIPA), the Indigenous Missionary Council (CIMI), and the Special Indigenous Health District. Japan COVID-19 has infected over 17,000 people and took over 900 lives in Japan. Japan struggles to maintain social distancing effectively. The island nation is slightly smaller than the state of California and has almost three times the population, a whopping 130 million people. Through our #CryptoAgainstCOVID social media campaign and partnership within Japan, Binance has extended its charity division to provide PPE supplies to institutions during this pandemic. With the field support of Miss Bitcoin, Mai Fujimoto, Binance Charity, and many more donors, we have donated a total of 10,000 protective masks to the J apan Federation of Care Business Providers and the N ational Federation of Nursing Care Providers . With the warmest regards, C hairman Tetsuhide Noguchi of the Japan Federation of Kaigo Business Providers r esponded to Binance Charity with open arms and appreciation. Beyond the initial donation to the Japan National Welfare Center, we have also donated 100,000 masks to hospitals across Japan. 10 Collaborating with Japan’s leading blockchain gaming platforms (Anique and MyCryptoHeroes), NFTs were awarded to those who helped contribute and spread the word of Binance Charity’s aid in Japan. This was a pilot to future NFT programs, which we saw as a great success. Major Donors Binance Charity has publicly provided comprehensive information of all our contributions, in the service of the many major donors that have given monetary support or helped us generously in other ways.
