Franco Battiato è nato a Jonia (CT) nel 1945. Sin dai primi anni '70 partecipa attivamente alle correnti di ricerca e sperimentazione europee. Le sue prime incisioni discografiche organiche escono per l'etichetta sperimentale Bla Bla, dal 1971 al 1975: Fetus (1971), Pollution (1972), Sulle corde di Aries (1973), Clic (1974), M.elle le "Gladiator" (1975). L'artista passa poi a Ricordi, che pubblica Feedback (1975, un album doppio che riassume la sua precedente produzione per Bla Bla), Battiato (1976), Juke Box (1977) e L'Egitto prima delle sabbie (1978). Con quest'ultimo brano per pianoforte Battiato vince nel 1978 il Premio Karlheinz Stockhausen. Nel 1979 pubblica L'Era del Cinghiale Bianco , primo lavoro con la Emi Italiana. Seguono Patriots ( 1980) e, nel 1981, La voce del Padrone , che staziona al vertice della classifica italiana per un anno vendendo oltre un milione di copie. Battiato diventa un "caso", materia di studio per gli intellettuali e fonte d' ispirazione per i musicisti. Gli album successivi sono: L'arca di Noè (1982), Orizzonti perduti (1983), Mondi lontanissimi (1985), Echoes of sufi dances (1985). Nel 1985 avvia le edizioni L'Ottava in collaborazione con Longanesi e nel 1989 l'omonima etichetta discografica dedicata a musica "di frontiera" fra la composizione colta, la canzone e la musica etnica, pubblicando sei titoli tra il 1988 e il 1989. Ma sin dal 1984 Franco Battiato è al lavoro per Genesi . L'opera debutta al Teatro Regio di Parma il 26 aprile 1987, accolta con trionfale consenso. Per la Emi escono ancora: Nomadas (1987, Emi Spagnola), Fisiognomica (1988) e nel 1989 il doppio album dal vivo Giubbe rosse . -

It enabled the visual realisation of concepts and ideas that would otherwise have been, in practical and logistical terms, too risky, expensive or plain impossible to capture, re-present and reproduce on film according to so-called “conventional” motion-picture recording techniques and devices. Since then, VFX – in conjunction with their respective techno-visual means of re-production – have gradually become utterly indispensable to the array of practices, techniques and tools commonly used in filmmaking as such. For the Hollywood cinema industry, comprehensive VFX applications have not only motivated the expansion of commercial filmmaking praxis. They have also influenced the evolution of viewing pleasures and spectatorship experiences. Following the digitisation of their associated technologies, VFX have been responsible for multiplying the strategies of re-presentation and story-telling as well as extending the range of stories that can potentially be told on screen. By the same token, the visual standards of the Hollywood film’s production and exhibition have been growing in sophistication. -

Special Ferdinando Baldi Memorial Issue (1927-2007) WAI! Ferdinando Baldi Memorial Issue The Swingin’ Doors Ferdinando Baldi was born on May 9, 1927 in Cava dei Tirreni, Salerno, Italy. He started his film career in the early 1950s with a number of forgotten low budget films and musical comedies. His break came in 1960 as the co-director of "David and Goliath" which was part biblical epic and part sword and sandal, and starred Orson Welles. The success of this film saw Baldi become strongly associated with the sword and sandal film genre for the next few years, and he would go on to direct a variety of genre films such as "I, Tartari" in 1961, again with Welles as the star. He also directed "Son of Cleopatra" (1964) with another American actor Mark Damon. 1966 found him busy filming "Massacre in the Black Forest" and "The Shadow of Eagles" both with Cameron Mitchell and the low budget spy film "Suicide Mission to Singapore". He also directed young Franco Nero in "Texas, Addio". With the explosion of the Spaghetti western films Baldi became known as one of the leading directors in the genre. "Little Rita of the West" (1967) was one of his most unique projects which was a western musical starring Rita Pavone and one of the early films of actor Terence Hill. In 1968 he filmed "Preparati la bara!" (Viva Django) which was a follow up to Sergio Corbucci’s "Django". It starred Terence Hill, who dramatically resembled Nero, in a straight forward role. 1969 saw "Gunman of the Ave Maria" ("The Forgotten Pistolero") with a plot taken from a Greek tragedy. -

A las diferentes Asociaciones, Fundaciones, Federaciones y Centros que trabajan en el mundo de la discapacidad, donde llegó la obra para sus bibliotecas, les pareció interesante, por lo que mis expectativas estaban cumplidas. Pero hubo muchas demandas y los libros se agotaron pronto, por lo que me embarqué en preparar una segunda edición. -

To celebrate this event, it was decided that the University would showcase some of the greatest dramatic productions that were first written and produced on campus. These shows included Godspell, Where Do We Go From Here?, and Pippin (originally known as Pippin, Pippin). 1 11/28/2018 But what the traditional CMU Drama Establishment didn’t realize…. …That a little-known, original musical writing club, called Scotch’n’Soda, was producing some award winning shows and entertainers of their own. 2 11/28/2018 What WAS Scotch’n’Soda? Scotch'n'Soda is a student-run theatre organization that still resides on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University. Its initial mission was to create and produce original, full-length musicals. Founded in 1907, S’n’S is one of the oldest student-run theater for original works in the country. Students from every department in the school could write, compose, design, direct, perform in, and otherwise become involved with every aspect of an original production. Works were regulated via critiques from peers with no teachers or grades involved. BUT--Because Drama and Music students began to truly enjoy the unabashed creation of these new works (which began to take toll on their academic performance), these Departments restricted participation by students from the School of the Arts.
