In meeting the unique needs of schools these partnerships include a variety of models. At Stevenson Middle School four content coaches work with teachers on refining teacher practice through collaborative lesson planning and observations. This year, the English Language Arts department supported by the ELA Center X PLP engaged in Take One!, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards professional development model in which teachers video tape and analyze their classroom instruction with their peers and reflect on teacher practice through a written commentary. Meanwhile at Gompers Middle School Professional Learning Partners support English Language Arts, Mathematics and Social Studies curricu- lum through Balanced Literacy, mathematics intervention programs, and a Small Schools structure with a staff that faces a 50% turnover rate each year. At Mendez Learning Center, the Center X Professional Learning Partner supports backwards planning and the use of Understanding By Understand in their Small School. Lastly, Center X Professional Learning Partners support schools in the Partnership that received School Improvement Grants (SIG) from the Federal government.
