Grand Club & All-Star Fundraising Toolkit Relay For Life at the University of Michigan Grand Club & All-Star Fundraising Toolkit Saturday, April 7, 2018 10 AM— 12 AM Palmer Field Questions? Contact [email protected]! RELAY FOR LIFE INFORMATION The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Communities and individuals across the globe unite to fight against cancer as they form teams and raise critical funds to support the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society, which is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. Symbolizing the battle waged around the clock by those facing cancer, Relay For Life events can last up to 24 hours and empower communities to help us free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer. Most Relay For Life events have a $15 registration fee—which could provide one ride to treatment for a patient in need. Participants can maximize their impact by raising money online or collecting donations to turn in at the event. And it’s an amazing opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors and pay tribute to loved ones lost. Last year, Relay For Life participants nationwide raised more than $279 million to help the American Cancer Society save lives from cancer. With your support, this year can be even more successful. Know the facts on cancer in the United States • In 2017, more than 1.6 million people in the US were newly diagnosed with cancer, and 600,920 people died as a result of the disease. • Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US—exceeded only by heart disease—and accounts for nearly 1 in 4 deaths. • Thanks in part to the work of the American Cancer Society, more than 2.1 million deaths from cancer have been averted in the past two decades—a 25% drop in cancer mortality during that time period. • The five-year relative survival rate for all cancers diagnosed between 2007 and 2013 is 69%. That is up from 49% from 1975 to 1977. How your support makes a difference Thanks to your support of Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society is there for everyone in every community touched by cancer, including those currently dealing with a cancer diagnosis; those who may face one in the future; and those who may avoid one altogether thanks to education and risk reduction. Through your support of the Relay For Life movement, your dollars contribute to: Join us at the walk! • Relay for Life 2014
Relay For Life 2014 Relay for Life 2014 was held at Te Rauparaha Arena – due to the safety concerns of Cyclone Luci, the event was held inside the Arena itself. What is Relay For Life? Relay For Life is an inspiring community event that gives everyone a chance to celebrate cancer survivors and caregivers; remember loved ones lost to cancer; and fight back by raising awareness and funds to support the work of the Cancer Society. Relay For Life is for people of all ages and fitness levels - anyone can take part! What happens at Relay For Life? Relay For Life begins with a moving Opening Ceremony, with cancer survivors and caregivers leading the first lap of the event. Next, team members take to the track. Most walk, while some prefer to jog or run. When they're not on the track, teams enjoy a festive, family-friendly environment with heaps of activities and entertainment. Later in the evening, a Candlelight Ceremony is held to remember love ones affected by cancer. Personally-inscribed candle bags are placed around the track, and their light emits a warm glow throughout Relay venue. Team members continue to walk or jog through the night. In the morning, teams come together for an inspiring Closing Ceremony. Why is Relay For Life held overnight? Team members walk and jog through the night, symbolising the fact that cancer never sleeps. However, people taking part may come and go as they like. When and where are Relays held? Relay For Life events are usually held on weekends throughout the summer and early autumn months.

For over a decade, the Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Thirty has been an important resource for peer-to-peer fundraising performance. Plenty is proud to be the analyst and key thought leadership partner of the study and the Tactics Are Not conference since its inception. The Fundraising Thirty is an index, similar to the Dow Jones Industrial Average — it does not catalog the entire expanse of the peer-to-peer universe, but rather follows a sample of some of the largest and most compelling campaigns in the space. Enough: Once again this year, the Fundraising Thirty has shown itself to be a useful and fascinating microcosm of the intricacies and complexities of the entire philanthropic space. Some traditionally stalwart brands have experienced another year of erosion, while many younger and more modern programs have enjoyed double-digit growth. It reminds us that in our wired, What the Latest P2P Fundraising Trends interconnected world, change is the only constant — and today's charities must be willing to evolve, reinvent, and invest to Reveal About How to Create grow. And, it illustrates once again that there is no silver bullet for growth — rather, sustained growth comes from a holistic Transformative Growth worldview, authentic branding, cohesive strategy, and well-supported teams. Growth is about helping people find their authentic passions — and unlocking your own in the process.
