Erosion The Meghna river banks suffer from erosion problems annually, mostly in the monsoon and post monsoon periods. As the transmission line will not have any impact on erosion, a further detailed analysis of erosion was not required for the project. Flooding Flooding situation of the study area is very nominal. The local people informed that, only the historical flash flood occurred in the year of 1988, 1998 and 2004. Flooding of 1988 and 1998 severely affected almost the entire study area. The duration of 1988 and 1998 flood was around 1-1.5 months with flood level of 6-7 ft. -

Additionally, homicide patterns over time shed light on regional differences, especially when looking at long-term trends. The connection between violence, security and development, within the broader context of the rule of law, is an important factor to be considered. Since its impact goes beyond the loss of human life and can create a climate of fear and uncertainty, intentional homicide (and violent crime) is a threat to the population. Homicide data can therefore play an important role in monitoring security and justice. -

Lokman Hossain *, Kazi Shariful Islam Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, University of Chittagong, Chittagong-4331, Bangladesh Received: 02/09/2013 Accepted: 31/10/2013 Published: 01/11/2013 Abstract The study was conducted in Chandpur district of Bangladesh to assess the status of pond, supply and tube-well water quality parameters and identify water collection and distribution system. Twelve water quality parameters namely; pH, TDS, TS, SS, DO, COD, BOD, conductivity, hardness, chloride, arsenic and iron were analyzed according to standard laboratory method. The mean value of pH, TDS, TS, SS, DO, COD, BOD, conductivity, hardness and chloride for pond water of all upazilas were 7.41, 169 mg/l, 193.26 mg/l, 32.85 mg/l, 5.56 mg/l, 79.07 mg/l, 36.28 mg/l, 335.18 µs/cm, 86.15 ppm and 34.57 mg/l respectively. The mean value of pH, TDS, TS, SS, DO, COD, BOD, conductivity, hardness, chloride, iron, and arsenic for tube well water of all upazilas were 8.01, 111.81 mg/l, 122.36 mg/l, 5.58 mg/l, 46.98 mg/l, 14.81 mg/l, 249.17 µs/cm, 131.23 ppm 108.09 mg/l, 0.55mg/l and 0.078 mg/l respectively. The mean value of pH, TDS, TS, SS, DO, COD, BOD, conductivity, hardness, chloride and iron for supply water of all upazilas were 7.8, 133.42 mg/l, 155.03 mg/l, 6.19 mg/l, 66.56 mg/l, 17.13 mg/l, 248.19 µs/cm, 126.07 ppm 167.6 mg/l and 0.65 mg/l respectively. -

Crop Diversity and Cropping Patterns of Comilla Region
Bangladesh Rice J. 21 (2) : 91-107, 2017 Crop Diversity and Cropping Patterns of Comilla Region A Saha1*, M Nasim1, M Harunur Rashid1 and S M Shahidullah1 ABSTRACT Comilla region is highly diverse in respect to topography, agro-ecology, land-use pattern and cropping systems. Planning of agricultural development largely depends on the reliable and comprehensive statistics of the existing cropping patterns, cropping intensity and crop diversity of a particular area, which will provide guideline to our policy makers, researchers, extensionists and development workers. The study was conducted over all 33 upazilas of Comilla region during 2016 using pre-tested semi- structured questionnaire with a view to document the existing cropping patterns, cropping intensity and crop diversity. From the present study it was observed that 73.56% of net cropped area (NCA) is covered by exclusive rice cropping systems whereas deep water rice cropping system occupied 16.09% of the regional NCA. The most dominant cropping pattern single Boro alone occupied 26.18% of NCA with its distribution over 30 out of 33 upazilas. The second largest area, 19.93% of NCA, was covered by Boro−Fallow−T. Aman cropping pattern, which was spread over 25 upazilas. One hundred and forty-six cropping patterns were identified in the whole region under this investigation. The highest, 36 cropping patterns were identified in Debidwar upazila of Comilla district and the lowest, seven were in Akhura and Ashuganj of B.Baria and Comilla Adarsha upazila. The lowest crop diversity index (CDI) was reported 0.481 in Comilla Adrasha upazila followed by 0.637 in Hajiganj of Chandpur. -
