Les vignerons de florensac Picpoul de pinet Story languedoc The Florensac territory is full of ancient remains bearing witness to age-old human presence. Crossed by the Via Domitia, a Roman communication and trade route, close to the ancient harbors of Sète and Cap d’Agde, the Florensac terroir is one of the oldest vineyards near the French Mediterranean coast. The Vignerons de Florensac (Winemakers of Florensac) have cultivated the advantages which give the people of this territory the capacity to be up amongst the very best of the winemaking sector. Their strength is that they can now count on 260 winemakers, all with a great love of what they do, who are proud to be part of the world of winemaking and to belong to the big family that the cooperative represents. Grape variety 100% Piquepoul Te r ro i r The AOC Languedoc Picpoul de Pinet vineyard covers about 1400 hectares (3000 acres) around the Thau lagoon in the western part of the Mediterranean Gulf. It forms a triangle between Agde, Pézenas and Sète, and is the largest white wine appellation in the Languedoc region. The Piquepoul varietal has a high level of acidity and the origin of the name means ‘to bite the lips’ (pique-pout). Winemaking Harvesting takes place at night to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and preserve the grape from oxidation. The whole vinification process occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged on the lees for a minimum of 4 months. There is no malolactic fermentation to maintain good acidity and permit the full expression of the Piquepoul.
