N.V. Domaine des Cognettes Brutproduct-timed-pdf - 'Perles du Val de Moine,' Loire - 'Effervescent value'

Why We're Drinking It

In a word: elegance. A crisp, delicate bottle of bubbly directly imported for Members, this is a rarely seen blend that had us saying, “the payoff’s in the bottle.”

From a small producer in the Loire, it’s made in the Méthode Traditionnelle, with secondary fermentation happening in the bottle itself. The result is outstanding (and even more so, for this price), a bottle to make even the most ardent Champagne connoisseurs double-take. A clean, precise combination of citrus fruit and creamy bubbles, it’s crisp and bright; an effervescent value that, from frites to fromage, is all about delight.

Inside Fact: This Crémant is a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and , the latter of which is the original Cognac . It is a synonym for the Picpoul (Piquepoul) of France, and is best known for producing light and acidic that have flavors and aromas of green apples and limes.

The Story to Know

From Cognettes: Son and great grandson of a winemaker, we are two brothers (Stephen and Vincent) that work together to bring together the work of the vine and wine in a region rich in appellation vineyards and stories. Winemakers and growers in Clisson, rocked by the medieval charm of the Sevre and the Monk, the Italian architecture, we produce a variety of Muscadet, the breeding method Sur Lie from months to 4 ½ years for Clisson. Starting in 2011, all of our vineyard are going into conversion in organic farming. A logical extension of our philosophy, which today is a responsible and sustainable agriculture. Over the years our eyes turned to farming methods healthier for our health, the natural balance and biodiversity soil and the vine and the expression of our wines taste. This is not a complete upheaval but a logical evolution of our practices; our sense is closer to wine than we are.

Elegance...that was the first word that came to my mind when I tried this great bottle of bubbly that we direct imported. It's just so darned classy! Crisp and delicate, with lots of fine bubbles, this was one of the better Cremants I've tasted in some time. It's a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Folle Blanche, also known as Ugni Blanc. This almost classic blend has produced an outstanding bottle of bubbles for us all to enjoy. It was produced by the Methode Traditionelle, a process that we all know better as Methode Champenoise, the same process as is used in Champagne. The payoff is in the bottle. I promise that even the most ardent Champagne head will see the incredible value that resides in this bottle and at this price point. It kind of makes you wonder why you're spending $30 or $40 on Champagne! -PM
