    BAB II INDUSTRI OTOMOTIF DI INDONESIA: POTENSI DAN PERKEMBANGAN Bab II ini akan menjelaskan mengenai potensi industri otomotif di Indonesia. Pembahasan potensi dalam bab ini meliputi beberapa poin yaitu pasar domestik yang besar, regulasi yang suportif serta tenaga kerja yang tersedia. Selain itu, bab ini juga akan menjelaskan perkembangan industri otomotif hingga Indonesia menjadi salah satu pusat industri otomotif dunia. 2.1 Kekuatan Industri Otomotif Indonesia Industri otomotif di Indonesia dalam beberapa tahun terakhir mengalami perkembangan yang positif. Perkembangan yang terjadi secara sederhana dapat dipahami karena adanya peningkatan dalam permintaan yang kemudian berimplikasi terhadap produktivitas yang meningkat.1 Secara potensi, industri otomotif Indonesia sejatinya masih dapat terus berkembang dan menggusur Thailand sebagai pemain utama dalam industri otomotif di kawasan Asia Tenggara. Berikut ini merupakan beberapa faktor yang menjadi kekuatan bagi industri otomotif Indonesia. 2.1.1 Indonesia merupakan pasar yang besar Secara populasi, Indonesia merupakan negara dengan penduduk terbesar di kawasan Asia Tenggara. Hal tersebut yang juga menjadikan Indonesia mengambil 1 Bank Indonesia, Laporan Perekonomian Indonesia 2017, hal. 194, https://www.bi.go.id/id/publikasi/laporan-tahunan/perekonomian/Documents/12_LPI2017_BAB10.pdf (5 Agustus 2020). 30 porsi yang besar dalam penjualan mobil tahunan di kawasan Asia Tenggara. Berdasarkan data penjualan mobil tahun 2019 oleh ASEAN Automotive Federation, Indonesia menguasai sebesar 29,79% penjualan mobil, yang kemudian diikuti oleh Thailand sebesar 29,13%.2 Angka tersebut mengalami penurunan dibandingkan dengan tahun 2018, yang mana Indonesia menguasai sebesar 32,32% dan Thailand 29,24%.3 Meskipun Indonesia masih berada diurutan pertama, Indonesia mengalami penurunan yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan Thailand. Namun, potensi pada pasar domestik bagi industri otomotif masih sangat besar.
