Does it swing out (towards you), or in (away from) you? How do you know? There are two ways: Hinge position and how the doorframe is set in the wall. Look or feel for the hinges. If you can see them or feel them on your side of the door, then the door opens towards you. If you can’t see or feel the hinges the door will open away from you. Door Size-up Check how the door frame is set in relation to the wall. If it is flush with the wall, that is even with the plane of the wall, the door swings outward. If the door is recessed into the wall, usually by the depth of the doorframe, it will swing inward and away from you. domer Forcible Entry Identification of a Swinging Door domer Forcible Entry domer Forcible Entry Door Size-Up Once you have determined which way the door swings, you need to judge how difficult the door will be to force. Look at three things: • The strength of the door and its assembly • The lock mechanism • The doorframe and the wall that holds it.
