Dayton Unit NAACP

2012 Annual Report

Goal: Inform, Educate, Empower Derrick L. Foward, M.C.E., President Message From The President:

Dear NAACP Members, Constituents, Church, Community and Business Leaders:

First giving Honor and Praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is the head of my life, because without him, we could do nothing.

In 2012, the Dayton Unit NAACP faced many challenges. From investigating the Joe Ross “Motel 6” case which was settled with undisclosed terms, to speaking out about the Deputy Chief Major John DiPeitro “Teen Hosed- Down Naked” case. The Dayton Unit NAACP’s voice for equality and justice continues to resonate throughout the Dayton region.

From a proactive standpoint, we educated hundreds of Dayton residents about issues ranging from healthcare to the death penalty, to the role of the church from a civic engagement standpoint to benefits for our Nations Veterans. As stated by many professionals, education opens doors for unlimited possibilities.

Our membership continues to grow and become more active, increasing by 5.1% versus the previous year. Our online activists grew to an impressive 2,200 Facebook friends, with very limited resources to accomplish this noble feat. We conducted 8 TV shows, highlighting minority businesses enterprises, hospice care, voting and other topics of interest.

We assisted 4 deserving students with scholarship opportunities and witnessed 2 of our ACT-SO students win National Medals at the National ACT-SO Competition in Houston, Texas. One Silver Medal in Computer Science and one Bronze Medal in Engineering.

Through the Dayton Unit NAACP Jobs Referral Program, we were able to secure 1 Apprenticeship Job and 15 Skilled Trades Jobs for workers in the construction industry.

Our youth led the charge in voter registration, knocking on more than 2,600 doors and registering more than 700 new voters. As a collective body, we attended more than 20 events throughout the year, registering people to VOTE!

In closing, never forgot to recognize the individuals who really love and care for you and will be with you until the end of time. We wish everyone a Blessed, Safe, Prosperous and Happy New Year. I am convinced that if you keep God first, you will receive the desires of your heart. To my Cabinet, I truly appreciate your support. Stay Blessed!!! “Our Success Is Influenced By Your Actions (DLF).”

Your community servant,

Derrick L. Foward, M.C.E. President Dayton Unit NAACP “History Is In Your Hands… Your Power, Your Decision - VOTE” 2 Dayton Unit NAACP
