JCS FAMILY DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY I hope you had a great long weekend! This week we are looking at the calling of the disciples, the 12 men who were with Christ for the last three and a half years of his life. A group of men who were just regular people like us, not as educated as us. They were nothing special about these guys. They were fisherman, tax collectors, normal people who changed the world after being chosen by Christ. 1. Read the verses below. Underline words that you think are important. JOHN 4:18-22 (ESV) “While walking by the , he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.” :16-20 (ESV) “Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.”

2. What words did you underline? 3. Why are they important? 4. What were their job? 5. Are these the kinds of people would you choose if you were going to change the world? 6. Who would you have chosen? Why? 7. If God uses these fishermen to change the world He can use you! Pray that God would use you to change your world.

Start to memorize this week’s verse: :31-32 – “And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.””

I’m praying for you and your family. Please send any requests or blessings to my email or text them to my cell. If I can help in any way please call. Pastor Charlie 407-340-0273 [email protected] JCS FAMILY DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY These are the same verses as yesterday. Read them again. Underline anything that is shocking about these men.

JOHN 4:18-22 (ESV) “While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.”

Mark 1:16-20 (ESV) “Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.”

2. How long did it take for them to follow Jesus? 3. What does the word “immediately” mean? 4. What did they leave behind? 5. Who did they leave behind? 6. The disciples followed immediately. They left their family, friends, and everything they had to follow Jesus. How hard would it be to follow immediately? 7. Pray that God would help you be a person who will leave the comfortable immediately to follow Him.

Continue memorizing this week’s verse: Luke 5:31-32 – “And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.””

I’m praying for you and your family. Please send any requests or blessings to my email or text them to my cell. If I can help in any way please call. Tax Collectors were looked at as traders. They worked for the invading Roman army to collect taxes from the Jewish people. They often over charged and kept the extra for themselves. They were considered a trader and a thief! As you read underline how Jesus breaks the cultural mold about tax collectors.

Luke 5:27-31 (ESV) “After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him, “Follow me.” 28 And leaving everything, he rose and followed him. 29 And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. 30 And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 3. What was Jesus reaction to the tax collectors? 4. What did he do with them that made the Pharisees mad? 5. What two group did Jesus have dinner with at Levi’s house? 6. Why do you think Jesus was hanging out with these people who had such bad reputations? 7. Pray that God will give a desire to be with people who need Jesus. Wait until you see Jesus response to the Pharisees tomorrow!!

Continue memorizing this week’s verse: Luke 5:31-32 – “31 And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.””

I miss seeing you and your family. Please know I am praying for all of our families. Please send any requests or blessings to my email or text them to my cell. If I can help in any way please call.

JCS FAMILY DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY

It’s FRIDAY!! Almost the weekend!

30 And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 31 And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”” 1. What was Jesus answer to the Pharisees complaining? Write verse 31+32 here.

2. What does that mean?

3. Why is this a good thing?

4. Who is sick? Who needs a spiritual doctor?

5. Jesus did not come to hang out with people who thought they had no need of being saved. He came to “seek and save the lost” The good part is that we were the sick and lost without Jesus. 6. Take a few minutes to thank God for being a God who is about the sick and lost.

Finish memorizing this week’s verse: Luke 5:31-32 – “31 And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.””

I’m praying for you and your family to have an awesome weekend!! Your JCS Family loves and cares about you!
