M.A. PART - II GURMAT SANGEET (GAYAN) SEMESTER-III (PAPER-I) (2015-2017) OUTLINES OF TESTS SYLLABI AND COURSES OF READING HISTORY OF GURMAT SANGEET Time: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 75 Total Teaching Hours: 75 Pass Marks: 28 Internal Assessment: 25 Marks INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PAPER-SETTER The question paper will consist of three sections A, B & C. Sections A & B will have 5 questions from the respective sections of the syllabus and will carry 7½ marks each. Section E will consist of 15 short answer type questions which will cover the entire syllabus uniformly and will carry 30 marks in all. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATES Candidates are required to attempt three questions from each sections A & B of the question paper and the entire section C is compulsory. Marks: 100 Time allowed: 20 minutes Pass Marks: 35% Lectures: 75 Section A -Gurmat Sangeet Styles - 30 Marks Section B -Instrument Playing - 10 Marks Section C -Assignment - 25 Marks Section D -Knowledge of Taals - 10 Marks INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PRACTICAL EXAMINER The Practical Examination will be conducted by a Board of Examiners consisting of Head of the department/Nominee, Internal teacher and External Experts as per decision of the Syndicate (25.10.91 Para 2.3). Harmonium is allowed as an accompaniment. Weightage will be given to be students reciting Shabad Kirtan along with string instruments of Gurmat Sangeet. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATES Harmonium is allowed as an accompaniment but weightage will be given to the students reciting Shabad Kirtan along with string instruments of Gurmat Sangeet tradition. 1. The candidate has to submit one assignment on the topics given by the examiner which will be evaluated by the external examiner on the basis of presentation and communication skills. 2. The candidate has to recite Shabad Kirtan playing a Tanti Saaz of Gurmat Sangeet tradition. a. (Rabaab, Siranda, Taus, Dilruba etc.) b. Ten Shabad compositions with proper Gayaki of Dhrupad Ang/Khayal Ang from the following prescribed ragas and Candidate should have brief introduction of other raagas also c. Bhairo, Malhar, Sorath, Bilawal, Bilawal Mangal, Bilawal Dakhni, Sarang, Vadhans Dakhani, Aasa, Dhanasri, Maajh, Gaurhi Cheti, Kedara, Jaijaawanti, Soohi, Todi 3. Ability to perform any one of the following with proper Gayaki : a. Gazal, Thumri, Tappa 4. Ability to recognize ragas asked by the examiner 5. Ability to demonstrate Ekgun, Dugun, Tigun, Layakaries of the following talas on hand : a.
