History of Italian Micology and First Contribution to the Correct PART THREE: ABBREVIATIONS OF NAMES OF AUTHORS OF FUNGAL TAXA IN ACCORDANCE WITH CABI47 47 Bioscience 2003; http://www.indexfungorum.org/Names/AuthorsOfFungalNames.htm 393 Introduction The XVIII International Botanical Congress, held in Melbourne, Australia, in July 2011, has significantly changed many rules that control what has long been called "botanical nomenclature", always including the "algae" and "fungi" in addition to "green plants". The latest edition of the Code incorporates these new decisions, the first of which concerns the change of title. From the Seventh Annual Congress in Stockholm in 1950, all subsequent editions of the Code have been published as the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, or ICBN). In Melbourne, following the point of view of mycologists, considering that the word “botany” could mislead from the real argument of the Code and suggest that it deals exclusively with plants and not of algae and fungi, too; therefore, it was agreed to change its name in "International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants" (International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants, or ICN). In publications, particularly those that deal with the taxonomy and nomenclature, it is desirable to cite the author (or authors) of the name in question especially at first mention of the taxon. In fact, the name of a new taxon is attributed to the author (or authors) to which the name was assigned when the description was validated. This allows, on one hand to have the certainty of correct description of the taxon, and on the other to prevent that synonyms are used instead of the correct name. Therefore, Part Three of this handbook lists the correct abbreviations of the names of the authors who have described the mycological species, including around 7.000 (in inglese il separatore delle migliaia è il punto, non la virgola come in italiano) listed in Part Two.     P2 Receptors in Airway Smooth Muscle Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Leicester by Adam Luke Smith, MBiolSci Department of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation University of Leicester Feb 2019 Supervisors: Dr Catherine Vial Prof Peter Bradding Prof Andy Wardlaw 1 Abstract The hypertrophic airway smooth muscle (ASM) of asthmatic airways is hyperresponsive compared to that of healthy airways, although the underlying causes for this are unknown. P2 receptors, receptors for extracellular nucleotides including ATP, contribute to the regulation of smooth muscle contraction and proliferation. However, the roles of P2 receptors in ASM have not been fully elucidated. As the extracellular ATP concentration is increased in asthmatic airways, this could provide a mechanism by which P2 receptors contribute to the pathogenesis of ASM dysfunction in asthma. In this thesis, I have demonstrated using qPCR the presence of P2 receptor transcripts in murine airways, and in ASM cells cultured from murine airways and those of both healthy and asthmatic donors. Biochemical and immunohistochemical approaches have revealed the expression of P2X1, P2X4 and P2X7 receptor proteins in murine airways which localises to the ASM specifically, and in ASM cells cultured from murine airways and those of healthy and asthmatic individuals. Using Ca2+ imaging, ASM cells cultured from murine airways were shown to express functional P2X7, P2Y1 and P2Y2 receptors. Additionally, ASM cells cultured from healthy airways expressed only functional P2Y2 receptors whilst those from asthmatic airways expressed both functional P2X4 and P2Y2 receptors. The application of extracellular nucleotides did not contract ASM of either murine or human airways.

Langer Power in the Roman Empire was a highly personalized thing. What modern scholars call the beginning of the Empire in 27 B.C. its founder, Augustus, called the "restoration of the Republic" after the civil wars of Caesar and Antony .1 In fact the unquestioned head of a growing Empire, the Emperor was in law no more than a Republican magistrate with unusually broad powers, which could be delegated but not inherited and which were, theoretically, revocable by the Senate.2 Later Emperors followed Augustus's lead in maintaining this fiction; his successor Tiberius was formally granted the various powers of the Emperorship upon his accession in 14 A.D.3 And, as in the Republic, these "Republican magistrates" were given no formal staff to help with their multitude of responsi­ bilities; they were expected to use their friends and families as aides and diplo­ mats.4 Given this lack of a stable civil service it is not suprising that the Emperors often experienced difficulty in finding loyal and competent men to carry out delicate and difficult missions overseas. Able military men were often seen as a threat to the Emperor's position, as were popular Senators.5 When possible, Augustus had sent members of his own family as his representatives in the Eastern Provinces-a policy that Tiberius continued.
