Soirée 30E Anniversaire SOIRÉE 30E ANNIVERSAIRE GRAND CHAPITEAU JEUDI 29 JUILLET, 20 H MAUDE SABOURIN ET RAPHAËL BOUCHARD, PHOTO : SASHA ONYSHCHENKO À PROPOS DU FESTIVAL DES ARTS DE SAINT-SAUVEUR Convaincu de l’importance fondamentale de la culture dans notre société, le Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur s’est hissé parmi les événe- ments majeurs du domaine des arts et de la culture au Québec et au Canada. Le FASS est maintenant le plus grand présentateur de danse en région au pays, autant par le nombre de spectacles à grand déploiement qu’il présente que par l’ampleur de sa fréquentation. Le Festival accueille depuis près de 30 ans les plus grands artistes de la danse et de la musique de la scène nationale et internationale dans le cadre enchanteur de Saint-Sauveur. Le directeur artistique Guillaume Côté signe la programmation du Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur depuis 2014, et son expérience, conju- guée à celle qu’il a acquise dans le cadre de ses activités de danseur, compositeur et chorégraphe, l’a amené à actualiser le mandat du Festival tout en mettant davantage d’accent sur la création, la diversité et le soutien aux créateurs québécois. Fondé en 1992 sous l’appellation de Festival des Arts Hiawatha, le Festival est renommé le Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur en 1997. En 2000, le Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur se voit remettre pour une première fois une mention spéciale du jury pour « l’Événement culturel des Laurentides » aux Grands Prix du Tourisme des Laurentides. Par la suite, il est lauréat en 2007, 2008 et 2014 du Grand Prix du tourisme et du Prix Ambassadeur culturel des Laurentides 2009 dans la catégorie « Festivals et événements culturels ». Pour son édition 2020, le FASS est lauréat du Prix Opus dans la catégorie « Diffuseur spécialisé de l’année ». Sous la direction générale d’Etienne Lavigne, le FASS assume son rôle de chef de file dans son milieu artistique et est reconnu comme « Centre d’excellence » dans les Lauren- tides. Il contribue activement à établir les bases d’un véritable pôle culturel, dont le rayonnement dépasse désormais les frontières de la région. NOTRE MISSION Le Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur est un organisme sans but lucratif voué à la découverte et au rayonnement des meilleurs chorégraphes, danseurs et musiciens. Par sa program- mation éclectique, inclusive, accessible et originale, le Festival cherche à appuyer et à inspirer les artistes d’ici et du monde entier pour partager leur travail et leur passion avec le public dans un cadre intime favorisant une véritable rencontre. SOIRÉE 30E ANNIVERSAIRE LA SYLPHIDE PAS DE DEUX INTERPRÈTES Jeannine Haller, Isaac Wright CHORÉGRAPHIE Auguste Bournonville MUSIQUE Jean Schneitzhoeffer L’une des œuvres les plus connues du ballet romantique, La Sylphide raconte l’histoire d’un jeune Écossais, James, aimé par une sylphide que lui seul peut voir. JEANNINE HALLER Jeannine Haller est originaire de Saskatoon, en Saskatchewan, et a reçu sa formation à la Place des Arts à Coquitlam, en Colombie-Britannique, et à l’École natio- nale de ballet du Canada. Elle se joint au Ballet national du Canada en tant qu’apprentie RBC en 2015 et est promue deuxième soliste en 2019. Son répertoire comprend la Deuxième Fée dans La belle au bois dormant et Polyhymnia dans Apollon ainsi que des rôles dans Le lac des cygnes, PHOTO: KAROLINAPHOTO: KURAS Roméo et Juliette, Giselle, Casse-Noisette, Onéguine, Les aventures d’Alice au pays des merveilles, Le conte d’hiver, Nijinsky, Anna Karénine, La veuve joyeuse, Frame by Frame, Pinocchio, La Sylphide, Chaconne, etc. En 2016, elle reçoit le Prix des apprentis RBC. En 2019, elle représente le Ballet national au Prix Erik-Bruhn. ISAAC WRIGHT Isaac Wright est reçu sa formation à la Quinte Ballet School of Canada, dans sa ville natale de Belleville en Ontario, et à l’École nationale de ballet du Canada. Il est engagé comme apprenti RBC au Ballet national du Canada en 2015 et danse pour le Ballet Jörgen et les Grands Ballets avant de réintégrer le corps de ballet du Ballet national en 2019. Isaac Wright a reçu le prix RBC de l’artiste émergent en 2016 et le Patron Award of Merit en 2020. BLUE INTERPRÈTE Margie Gillis CHORÉGRAPHIE Margie Gillis MUSIQUE Leonard Cohen, chantée par Jennifer Warnes Blue est une méditation sur le pardon, chorégraphiée en 1998 sur la chanson Famous Blue Raincoat de Leonard Cohen, interprétée par Jennifer Warnes. MARGIE GILLIS À l’avant-plan de la danse moderne depuis plus de 45 ans, l’artiste de renommée internationale Margie Gillis est l’une des chorégraphes et danseuses canadiennes les plus influentes des XXe et XXIe siècles. En 1981, elle fonde la Fondation de danse Margie Gillis. Au fil des décennies, elle a créé un riche répertoire de plus de 150 créations, solos, duos et pièces de groupe, qui ont été présentées dans le monde entier. : DESDEMONA BURGIN DESDEMONA : L’enseignement, le mentorat et la transmission de PHOTO son héritage aux artistes émergents font partie intégrante de sa vision. Margie Gillis a créé le Legacy Project pour transmettre son histoire créative. C’est ainsi qu’est née la Margie Gillis-Legacy Project Dance Company, qui présente et tourne actuellement des œuvres nouvelles et des rétrospectives. Margie Gillis a reçu de nombreux prix et distinctions, parmi lesquels Officier de l’Ordre du Canada, Chevalier de l’Ordre du Québec, le Prix du Gouverneur général pour les arts de la scène, un diplôme honorifique de l’Université Concordia et bien d’autres encore. Sans relâche, elle continue de développer son art par l’expérimentation, l’ensei- gnement, la création, l’innovation et la performance. APOLLON MUSAGÈTE INTERPRÈTES Svetlana Lunkina, Brendan Saye CHORÉGRAPHIE George Balanchine MUSIQUE Igor Stravinsky Un des joyaux du répertoire néoclassique. Balanchine conçoit en 1928 un Apollon jeune et sauvage, d’une masculinité exacerbée. L’œuvre est sobre et claire, en parfaite adéquation avec la partition de Stravinsky, et continue aujourd’hui d’être dansée dans le monde entier. SVETLANA LUNKINA PREMIÈRE DANSEUSE DU BALLET NATIONAL DU CANADA PRIMA BALLERINA DU THÉÂTRE BOLCHOÏ EN RUSSIE Svetlana Lunkina est née à Moscou (Russie) et a été formée à l’Académie de danse de Moscou. Après avoir obtenu son diplôme en 1997, elle se joint au Ballet Bolchoï, où son professeur est la grande Ekaterina Maximova. : ALEKSANDER: ANTONIJEVIC Svetlana est reconnue comme une prodige du ballet. Au PHOTO cours de sa première année au Bolchoï, elle interprète le rôle-titre dans Giselle à tout juste 18 ans, devenant ainsi la plus jeune Giselle de l’his- toire du Bolchoï. Au cours de ses 20 ans de carrière, Svetlana Lunkina a pu se démarquer et obtenir les plus grands succès du ballet mondial. À ce jour, elle a interprété une centaine de rôles principaux du ballet classique et moderne. Son répertoire classique comprend les rôles-titres ou les rôles principaux de chefs-d’œuvre de la chorégraphie mondiale tels que Le lac des cygnes, La bayadère, Raymonda, Spartacus, Don Quichotte, La belle au bois dormant, Casse-Noisette, Giselle, La Sylphide, Le corsaire, Carmen, La fille du pharaon et bien d’autres. Les plus grands chorégraphes du monde ont créé leurs productions sur la scène du Théâtre Bolchoï en tenant compte de ses qualités dramatiques. Spécialement pour elle, Alexander Grant a mis en scène le rôle de Lisa dans le ballet La fille mal gardée (2002). Roland Petit a mis en scène les rôles de Lisa dans La dame de pique (2001) et d’Esmeralda dans Notre-Dame de Paris (2003). Juste pour elle, Roland Petit a, quant à lui, actualisé son ballet La rose malade pour la première fois depuis que Maya Plisets- kaya l’avait dansé. Svetlana Lunkina est souvent invitée en tant qu’étoile internationale par les princi- paux théâtres de ballet du monde sur les scènes des opéras de Berlin, Vienne, Rome et Paris. Elle a reçu les trois prix les plus prestigieux du ballet professionnel, soit le UK’s Critic’s Circle National Dance Award, le Benois de la Danse et le titre de Ballerine de la décennie. BRENDAN SAYE Brendan Saye est né à Vancouver, en Colombie-Bri- tannique, et a été formé à l’École nationale de ballet du Canada. Brendan joint les rangs du Ballet national du Canada comme apprenti RBC en 2008 et est promu danseur étoile en 2019. : KAROLINA KURAS KAROLINA : Récemment, il fait ses débuts dans le rôle d’Albrecht dans Giselle et d’Eurydice dans la première mondiale PHOTO d’Orpheus Alive. Il a interprété des rôles principaux tels que Siegfried dans Le lac des cygnes, le Prince Florimond dans La belle au bois dormant, Roméo et Tybalt dans Roméo et Juliette, Lewis Carroll/le Lapin blanc et Rajah/la Chenille dans Les aventures d’Alice au pays des merveilles, Polixènes dans Le conte d’hiver, Karénine dans Anna Karénine, le rôle-titre dans Apollon musagète, Oberon dans The Dream, Flegmatique dans Les quatre tempéraments, Icicle dans Casse-Noisette et le Roi dans Le petit prince. En 2012, Brendan représente le Ballet national au Prix Erik-Bruhn et reçoit le Patron Award of Merit. Il a également reçu le prix Peter Dwyer et le prix Christopher Ondaatje en 2008 alors qu’il était étudiant à l’École nationale de ballet du Canada.

Principal Dancer Jurgita Dronina will make her company debut in the title role of Juliet this season. Romeo and Juliet is onstage March 11 – 22, 2020 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts and concludes the Winter Season. #RomeoandJulietNBC Following a triumphant debut with New York City Ballet in Swan Lake earlier this month, Principal Dancer Guillaume Côté will reprise the role of Romeo opposite Principal Dancer Elena Lobsanova as Juliet. The pair will perform on opening night in the roles that were created on them in 2011. Mr. Côté will also partner Ms. Dronina. Subsequent performances will feature Principal Dancers Naoya Ebe, Harrison James and Brendan Saye as Romeo and Principal Dancers Svetlana Lunkina, Heather Ogden and Sonia Rodriguez and First Soloist Chelsy Meiss as Juliet. Also making debuts this season are First Soloist Donald Thom as Mercutio and Principal Dancer Piotr Stanczyk as Tybalt. Mr. Thom and Second Soloist Christopher Gerty make their debuts as Paris.
