It has been great to see our women so strong in the First Grade and we hope that although the 2nd Grade struggled, the experienced gained by this very young side will continue to keep our women's program strong for many years to come. It is also great to see a new generation of cricketers coming through the junior grades with a very strong U14 Red side making finals and our two WSJCA U14 teams playing off in the Grand Final for that competition. We hope to see many of these young players come through to senior cricket in the future. The Senior Men were not as successful on the field, but as our coach Mark Harrity recently spoke about at our Golden Eagle luncheon, there were so many exciting signs for the future with a number of 16 year olds debuting in the 1st Grade and some other great talent coming through the 2nd Grade. The coaching team is being proactive in securing some depth for next season and we are hoping to add a few talented players that have perhaps been unrecognised or under-rated by others outside of West Torrens. Watch this space! Off the field we have maintained a strong financial position despite ever increasing costs and expenses and we hope to be able to report a strong surplus again for this season in the Annual Report. Our Annual Presentation Nights will soon have come and gone, and I congratulate in advance all those players recognised for outstanding performances this season. I look forward to spending time with our members and supporters at the Presentation Nights to wrap up what has been a somewhat disappointing season performance-wise for most of our teams, but one that has again set us up for continued strength and growth as a club on and off the field for the future. STOP PRESS Being the organised person, I like to think I am, I wrote this a week before the 1st Grade Women's Grand Final and now need to update it to acknowledge their marvellous effort in winning all the trophies available to them this season, just like our 1st Grade Men did in 2016/17! A massive congratulations to all of the players and support team involved in this outstanding achievement and particularly Brooke Harris who pulled a Dusty and won everything there was to win this season! There was a very strong WT crowd again for the Grand Final at the brand-new Karen Rolton Oval and I am proud to be the President of a club that is developing a very strong culture of supporting our own, on and off the field. Well done and thank you to all our members and supporters for being there to cheer on our Sheagles, especially the very vocal group from our Senior Men's sides! Back at the club on Saturday night it was great to see the Men and Women sitting together and enjoying the success as one.

  • Junior Records 2020
JUNIOR RECORDS (correct as at 1/4/20) West Torrens Cricket Club - Junior Records The S.A.C.A. Junior grades began with an Under 16 Schoolboys competition in the January 1948 school holidays and later became an Under 17 competition (January 1968). It reverted to Under 16 for one season 2011-12 against the wishes of the majority of Clubs. This competition was known as the SACA Schoolboys competition from 1947-48 to 1973-74, Shell Shield from 1974-75 to 2003-04 and then became the Bank SA Shield in 2004-05. Originally the Carnival was conducted over 3 weeks in a round robin form with each team playing every other team – a series of 11 matches without finals. This was later reduced to a two week tournament with teams placed in two sets or zones and playing a series of 6 matches plus a cross zone final series. The Commonwealth Bank competitions began as single Under 16 and Under 14 grades in 1978-79 and expanded to Red and White divisions in each age group in 1988-89. The Club did not field any Under 14 teams in 1982-83. No Under 16 White team was fielded in 1991-92, 1992-93 and 1996-97 nor an Under 14 White team from 1994-95 to 1996-97. The home ground for the junior teams was at the University Playing Fields at West Beach until the end of 1984-85 with a short time at the Adelaide Airport Oval. A hard wicket was put down on Kings Reserve West and used from 1985-86 until the end of 1988-89.

  • Glynde and Beddingham CC V Streethouse, Npower Village Knockout Final, Lord's Cricket Ground, Monday 14 September 2009
Glynde and Beddingham Cricket Club v Streethouse Npower Village Knockout Final Lord’s Cricket Ground, Monday 14 September 2009 The day starts with a walk to Glynde station to begin my journey to Lords but, of course, this particular journey started long before this day. It is difficult to know exactly where. Perhaps when George Tuppen, shepherd on the Home Farm at Glynde, and Bill ‘Scrappy’ Freeman, son of the village gamekeeper and later clerk to the parish council, clerk to the overseers of the poor and secretary of the Glynde Working Mens’ Club, began the modern village cricket team when they were no more than boys nearly 125 years ago. Or perhaps for me, as a small boy, when I watched my father Bob play for Glynde as he had watched his father Tom when he was captain of the Glynde team that won the Cuckmere Valley League in 1927. Or, more likely and relevant to this day, the year that Roger Martin, son of the Glynde stationmaster, first joined the club as a teenager over half a century ago, progressed to be secretary, groundsman and chairman and carried the club tirelessly and selflessly until it arrived at this day of days. Or maybe it was all down to the rabbits. Glynde now have two pitches, next to the small river that runs to the south of the ground and is the boundary between the ancient parishes of Glynde and Beddingham, but when most of the current team started playing as juniors there was still only the main ground and the nets stood next to the garage where the roller is housed.
