Granby High School Turns 80! Save the date – November 15th! GRANBY HIGH’S SCHOOLWIDE INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS Happy New School Year, Granby High Families! As we embark on the 2019-2020 school year, we are proud to celebrate Granby High School’s 80th school year. As we celebrate our school, we will recognize graduates who have Our Instructional Focus Statement contributed to our local, state, national, and international community. We will host a Reception and Wall of Fame At Granby High School, we will improve students' critical thinking skills through Ceremony, Friday, November 15, 2019, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the school. We invite community members, use of Kagan and cooperative learning graduates, and students to submit nominations no later than October 8, 2019. Beginning September 13, 2019, strategies with JIGSAW, FISHBONE, nomination forms and further information will be available on the school’s website. Advanced Placement Please be advised that new procedures are in effect this school year as it relates to Advanced Placement (AP) testing. Students are simultaneously joining their respective AP classes and registering to take the AP test that is administered in May 2020. Please complete the fee waiver and acknowledgement forms and return them by October 1 st to your child’s AP teacher. Please contact Mrs. Self if you have any questions.

PSAT October 16th All 9th, 10th, and select 11th grade students will also be taking the PSAT/NMSQT test on October 16 th. Please encourage your child’s participation in these tests, as they are designed to prepare students for SAT testing and national merit scholarship qualifying opportunities when applying to colleges and universities. Rachel’s Challenge Come out and join the Rachel's Challenge club on Wed. Sept. 11th. We want to help to make Granby the most inclusive and welcoming high school all around. We will have refreshments, make a bulletin board, discuss upcoming events, and have fun meeting each other. Come join the service and the fun! See you Wednesday right after school in room 24C!! Band Color Guard Team There will be a color guard interest meeting on Monday, September 9, 2019 after school in the band room. Thank you. See Ms. Traci Gay in 10 B.

National Honor Society NHS will sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, Sept 17 from 8-2 pm in the Small Gym. Those students 16 years or younger who wish to participate need a parent consent form. Sign up outside of Room 30D. See Mrs. Franklin for questions. NHS volunteers needed, service hours provided. The first NHS meeting will be held on Monday, September 9 in the Medium Forum. Attendance is required. National Honor Society invitations will be sent out to potential new members by the end of September.

Student Council Association SCA and Leader Academy will hold a joint interest meeting on Wednesday, September 11 in the Medium Forum. Students who are interested in either or both should attend. Email Mrs. Franklin at [email protected] for more information. Homeroom teachers please try to send a representative to the meeting (must be willing and able to stay after school to create opportunities build the Granby community, promote school spirit and be an example of "the Granby Way")

National Art Honor Society The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) will hold the first mandatory meeting for current members on Wednesday, September 11at 2:15 in 1AR. Officers will be elected. The meeting will end at 3:15pm, however Ms. Hurst will stay until 3:45 for those that need a bus pass. Those students who would like to join for next school year can apply in April 2020.

Granby Movie Club Granby Movie Club, GMC, will meet Wednesday, 9/11, after school in 17B. If you're interested in joining us, please pick up a movie permission slip in the red folder outside 17B and return it by Tuesday, 9/10. There are also some brochures to give information about the club. Our first movie is Canal Street directed by Rhyan LaMarr. See Ms. Brunner for information.
