The $5.5 million facility was built at no expense to the State of Missouri, as financing was accomplished solely through student fees. The “Multi” truly lives up to its name, as it is one of the busiest places on campus. In addition to being the home of Mules and Jennies and indoor track and field, Jennies , and Mules wrestling, the facility is used by university students, faculty, and staff, as well as the general public. Designed primarily for recreational use, the building features a spacious main arena with a six-lane track, a swimming pool, five indoor and two outdoor handball/racquetball courts, areas for free and universal weights, an activities area, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and offices for UCM’s Intercollegiate Athletics staff. The main arena can accommodate four basketball or six volleyball courts at one time or all of the events for an indoor track meet. Seating capacity in the Multipurpose Building is 8,500 for of 1998. Allan Person, So. (165 lbs) 4 Central Missouri Wrestling Head Coach Justin Ensign The 2016-17 season is Justin Ensign’s seventh season as the head coach of the Central Missouri Mules Wrestling squad.

Ensign has coached eight national qualifiers in six seasons, with a 29- 55 dual record, and a .345 winning percentage. He is 6-23 against MIAA opponents.

The 2015-16 season was a challenging one for Ensign and the Mules Wrestling program. In 2012-13, the Mules finished 6-7 with a 2-3 conference record. Ensign finished the 2012-13 season coaching Eric Mateo at the NCAA-II Wrestling Championship, who finished at 21-21 overall. In his second season the Mules were plagued with injuries, finishing with a 3-14 dual record. The team may have been battered and bruised, but they still managed to have numerous top finishers at several tournaments throughout the season. Nick Viterisi earned All-Region honors that season, and posted an impressive 28-15 record. Austin Sommer Graduate Assistant Coach (2nd Season)

Austin Sommer is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach with Mules Wrestling. Prior to joining UCM, Sommer spent a season as a student assistant at Division I Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa.

Sommer was a four-year letterwinner at Drexel wrestling at 149 and 157 pounds. He was a national qualifier at 157 lbs. in 2014. He recorded 59 career wins, including a single-season best 17 during his sophomore campaign with six wins coming by fall. He totaled 16 falls during his career, the 17th most in Drexel history.

The Northampton, Pa. native earned his bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Drexel in 2015 and is working toward his master’s degree at UCM.

Jacob Ekster Graduate Asssitant Coach (1st Season)

Jacob Ekster is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach with Mules Wrestling after spending the last four years wrestling at Missouri Valley College.

Ekster was a four time All-American at Missouri Valley College in two weight classes. He garnered All- American status three times at 149 lbs and once at 141 lbs. In his senior season at 141 lbs., Ekster finished fifth at the NAIA Wrestling National Championships. He was also a four time regional finalist and two time regional champion.

The Houston, Tex. native earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology with a concentration in Conservation and minored in Business. He currently working on his master’s in Occupational Safety Management.

Brandon Hayes Volunteer Assistant Coach (3rd Season)

Brandon Hayes enters his third season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Mules wrestling program. Prior to assisting the coaching staff, Hayes wrestled four years for Central Missouri.

Hayes was a four year letter winner for the Mules and finished with a career record of 91-58. In his senior season, he was second on the team with a winning percentage of .706 with 14 falls and 36 takedowns. Hayes took second place in the heavyweight division at the NCAA Super-II Regional, helping the Mules place fifth and qualifying him for the NCAA Division II National Championships.

As a redshirt Freshman: Agnew went 16-24 overall, with a dual record of 3-8 in 2015-16. His best finish during his first season of competition for UCM was a fourth place finish at the UCM Open. For the season, he recorded three falls and a technical fall.

Agnew redshirted the 2014-15 season but competed unattached at two events.

In high school: Agnew comes to Central Missouri after graduating from West Valley High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was a four-time state qualifier, with one title and three place finishes. He also ran cross country and track.

Steffon Fassett, Jr. (157 lbs) 24 Central Missouri Wrestling 2015-16 Season Recap The 2015-16 season was a tough one for the Mules as they tied a program low dual record wins in a season going Following the National Duals, UCM returned home to host 2-9 overall. UCM placed 13th at regionals, and failed to MIAA foe Newman University in their first conference dual of qualify any wrestlers for the NCAA-II National Wrestling the season. Dr. Charles Ambrose Board of Governors University President

Charles M. Ambrose, Ed.D., became the 15th president of the University of Central Missouri on Aug. 1, 2010. A career educator who is a fervent advocate of servant leadership and engaged learning, he is committed to promoting academic quality, excellence in teaching and the collegiate experience.

During his first year at UCM, President Gus Wetzel II John A. Collier Board President Board Vice President Ambrose helped guide the institution Clinton Weston through the building of a new Strategic Governance Model in partnership with the Association for Governing Boards. He also provided leadership through an extensive administrative and academic review process designed to provide a stronger, more viable educational experience for students, while also cutting operational costs.

Ambrose sought to build student enrollment, an effort that continues to pay off with the largest enrollment in the university’s 140-year history. He has also begun a major initiative to encourage and provide assistance for students to graduate college within four years with less debt.

The president continues to build strong relationships with the men and women who Mary Dandurand Weldon Brady serve this country. This includes the establishment of the Whiteman Advantage Board Secretary Governor Program, which brings together personnel from Whiteman Air Force Base and Warrensburg Weston the university to work cooperatively in creating new educational opportunities for military members. The university also developed the Military Tuition Package, which provides savings on an education for military men and women currently serving their country, as well as their spouses and dependents, and veterans.

Under his direction, the university developed a new strategic positioning initiative to provide a more articulated understanding of what makes UCM unique and helped guide the institution in establishing its future priorities. In fall 2012, Ambrose launched the new Missouri Innovation Campus, in collaboration with the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and private industry, which will allow students to begin college during their junior year of high school and complete a degree in Walt Hicklin Mary Long four years with little or no debt. After graduating from Furman with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, he earned two advanced degrees in higher education administration, a master’s from the University of Louisville and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Georgia.

Ambrose and his wife, Kris, are active in the community and have participated in charitable bike rides to raise funds and awareness for poverty, hunger and disease.

The Ambroses have two children; Charlie, a December 2013 UCM graduate, and Kathryn, a college junior. Marvin Wright Mathew Martinez Governor Student Governor Columbia Warrensburg 44 Athletic Director Jerry Hughes Jerry Hughes Athletics Director Under the leadership of Jerry Hughes, UCM’s athletics program has enjoyed unprecedented success, highlighted by the dual NCAA basketball championships in 1984 by the Mules and Jennies, the 1994 and 2003 NCAA baseball championships, the 2003 women’s Intercollegiate Bowling Association national title, the 2014 men’s basketball national crown and the 2015 Indoor & Outdoor national titles for Jennies Track & Field. In 2005, Hughes was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and in January of 2016 he was named a Missouri Sports Legend, the highest honor bestowed by the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Entering the 2016 fall semester, the Mules and Jennies have won 153 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championships, eight national championships, had 46 other top four NCAA finishes, and made more than 270 University of Central Missouri Director of Athletics Jerry NCAA post-season appearances during Hughes’ tenure. The Dr. Ron “Doc” VanDam Athletic Training Facility was dedicated on January 22, 2011. In his 30-year tenure at Central Missouri, Doc treated and advised thousands of athletes, was an integral part of 78 MIAA Conference Championships, 41 MIAA Conference Tournament Championships, 26 NCAA Regional Championships and 3 NCAA National Championships as well as leading, teaching and mentoring the athletic training students at Central Missouri. Doc was foundational in setting the standard for success within the Athletics Department and the Physical Education Department at Central Missouri. His leadership was respected and appreciated while he served as the President of the Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association, and as a member of the Missouri State High School Activities Association Sports Medicine Advisory Committee.
