Shabbat, January 18 Todah rabbah! "The Whole Language: The Power of Extravagant Tenderness" Father Gregory Boyle will share what he has learned in three decades working with marginalized populations at Homeboy In- dustries in Los Angeles, Calif.—that love is the answer, community is the context, and tenderness is the connective tissue. Ten- derness reflects the foundational notion that there are no us and them, only us. Homeboy seeks to be what the world is invited to

become. Kinship cannot happen without tenderness. In 1992, Joanne was about to get on a plane from her native to Los An- geles. Presciently, her mother told her, "You're going to marry the next man you fall for." Three days later, she met Robby, and the rest is history. Married 26 years, they've raised two children they're very proud of, rescued three dogs, and made countless friends, many from our wonderful synagogue. Robby has a music degree from USC and owns Simcha Orchestra and Spotlight Music. He has loved being a shaliach tzibur, organizing daveners and music, improving the shul's physical space and acoustics, attending daily minyan, and more. Joanne, a writer and marketer with a UCLA MBA, has volunteered on BDJ's , education, and hospitality commiit- tees. She was instrumental in bringing JWW, JNF, and AIGYA events to our shul. Robby and Joanne are particularly grateful for the shul's unique combination of To- rah observance, inclusiveness, social justice work, and dedicated and humble clergy.
